Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

lol you're right. i'm so sorry i forgot to mention, take pictures of your potential looks with and without the flash. I know what you're talking about and HD foundation will not come off chalky in photos when applied the right way. -fact.

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

And I agree with stoppit completely - just do your research on what foundation is best for flash photography. And whenever you are practicing have someone take your pic to see what the outcome looks like on camera.

I agree about taking lots of photos when you are practicing. I took millions.

I'm not talking about looking chalky though but it might work. I've never used it so can't comment on that one in particular. Just what I know about light diffusing foundations.

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

Great tip about the Flash photography..

There's a really good you tube blogger called makeupadikt.. A beautiful Pakistani British girl who teaches how to apply make up, you can hear her little girls chattering in the background and she is so so down to earth..

I think she is also one of the most beautiful girls I have seen with a hijab.. I need to spend time learning but I am so lazy..

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

Yup, she is gorgeous and talented. And her voice doesn't grate, bonus!

It is quite money and time intensive, so be prepared.

By the time I got to it, I had already had a few years of experimenting with all kind of products and knew what worked best for me for particular aspects and what wasn't needed (coz a lot of these youtube girls use a million things when you only actually need a few), so there wasn't much more I needed to buy.

Finding the right foundation is probably the most difficult. Eyemakeup is just about practise.

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

^

Maybe I have left it too late, I had bought a load of MAC products so am ok with the make up malarkey, I just need to buy another bottle of foundation..

It does give you flawless skin so just for such occasions I think I will be ok with in using that..

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

Do your own make up on the Mehndi but get a woman from a good beauty parlour in Islamabad to do your make up in Kashmir.

That's what my sister did and her wedding was in Rawalakot, Kashmir. She got a woman from Depilex to come and do her Baraat make up. It costs alot but it was definitely worth it.

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

Hmm, nah. You will just need to pack in a little more practise.

To be honest, I only did one proper run through for the entire look start to finish and it was the first time I had applied false lashes properly too (before then, it was just to test between the few I had bought).

I wore the foundation a couple of times before that, to make sure it did everything I wanted of it and looked right in all lighting conditions and pictures.

Re: Anyone do their own make up on their wedding

IMO it is perfectly fine to do your own makeup... please make sure you experiment a few times beforehand. Practice taking pictures with the makeup and jewellery on just to see what it looks like.

Makeup Trust Issues

I can't trust anybody to do my bridal makeup. Why do these makeup artists charge so much? I could buy all the expensive makeup in the world for what they charge and do enough trials on myself so see what looks good.

Any thoughts?

Thats what I used to think when my sister got married a few years back. After she got her trial done, I still wasn't convinced that she should pay the make up artist that much money. However, years later, with some perspective, I realize how big of a mistake it would have been if she did her make up on her own. The contouring they did on her face looked remarkable and her eye make up was just flawless. She looked amazing.

Make up artists are professionals. They know what they are doing and know how to work with your features, skin tone, skin texture, and the shape of your face to make them look the best. The trick is to go to someone who has a great body of work and someone that knows what they are doing. Going somewhere blindly because all desis go to them is a bad decision. Spending money on a make up artist is worth it in the end, provided you find one you can communicate with clearly about what you want and how you want to look - it especially helps if you take pictures from magazines to show the make up artist what it is that you exactly want. When you find the right person, trust me, a make up artist is worth the money. You are spending thousands of dollars on clothes, jewelry, and on salon trips in preparation for your wedding, and a couple of hundred dollars to a make up artist is indeed worth it.

I worked on a film set for a few months and got to know the make up artist on set. She explained to me all the training she had and how make up artistry truly is an art - so if you find a great make up artist - dont worry! You can completely trust them! Just communicate communicate communicate!

Re: Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

^punjabikudi - while i agree with your comments the whole reason for this thread is that many girls getting married in pakistan have no access to makeup artists. the women in these salons can just apply makeup. they have no idea about skin tones, contouring for ones features, eye makeup that compliments the shape of your eye.. nothing.

this was the position i was in when i got married in pakistan. to be quite honest, i can confidently say that i know how to work best with my features, my skin tone etc than the vast majority of makeup artists would, having at the most only 1 trial to figure it all out for that client. i did my own contouring and everything.
BUT, i can't say i would be able to do anyone else's makeup any where near as well as i can my own... and that's where the skill of being makeup artist comes in.

Re: Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

This is the thing.. getting a make up artist who won't turn you into a drag queen is rare in kashmir.. they are still into the whole dark purple lipstick and white foundation...

I don't know how it will work.. I have bought all my make up and am thinking that maybe I'll get a trail done as both events will be in the same city and I don't trust any family to do it..

Re: Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

Did you visit any parlour in Kashmir? Did you ask around whether MUAs from any other city would travel to Kashmir?

After what parlours in Pakistan do, damage control is impossible! Confu, tell the makeup artist exactly what you want. If you think she's going overboard with the foundation ask her to tone it down. It's a great idea to learn makeup (personal grooming and makeup) even if you decide to go to a professional.

Re: Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

am i the only one that likes the drag-queen look? i'm not paying big bucks to look like myself.

You must be kidding?! Most would through a fit if you tell them to correct what they have done on your face. They wouldnt be able to take it, heck not even their normal worker takes it how would the main artist do so.

Anyway, i have been thinking abt the same that i shud learn make-up n do my own but i guess its not possible 2 do yr own on yr wedding. Hmm i guess u just gotta pray that u get lucky and just be careful have a trial if possible.

Ahem... strangely, I agree with Sara! I am all for natural looks and everything but a bride needs that something extra that only a professional can provide. Why else call it a 'Wedding/Bridal Makeover'?

Re: Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

^^ I agree, although not with the whole "drag queen" thing, but natural would be kind of boring on your wedding day.
A good plan (also my plan :)) would be to go early and set up dates with good makeup artists for a trial run. No clue how much it costs, but one of my friends got it done for free, however that was here... Don't know what they do in pakistan.

And we pay good money for our getting our makeup done, the makeup artists can shove their atta-like powder for all we should care, it's not THEIR big day.

Btw, when you do look for makeup artists check what type of products they use-and that they are hygienic, you wouldn't want to share a mascara wand with 50 other people...

Re: Makeup Trust Issues - Did anyone do their own make up on their wedding?

^Trial runs are still not given in salons in Pakistan. You can only browse through portfolios and/or look at brides getting ready there.
