Makeup brushes

Wow!! I only used my fingers to put foundation and concealer on. Was I the only one using my fingers to put foundation/concealer on all the time? It was a :smack: moment for me when I first used a foundation brush and saw the results. I only have drugstore brand brushes but i’m impressed.

Re: Makeup brushes

I use a cosmetic wedge to apply my foundation, now I'm wondering if a brush is better?

Re: Makeup brushes

Foundation brushes are amazing. The good ones I find are MAC, hourglass, makeupforever and bobbi brown

For buffing using the brush is amazing! My go to brush for the face is always the shiseido foundation brush, it’s a little round topped one, I like the the fact its fairly small in size and much easier to hold hence the application is pretty well blended all over the skin.

Re: Makeup brushes

LOL no you’re not the only one. I have brushes for everything (MAC 190 & 187 for foundations) but with cream concealers, at times I still use my fingers b/c I feel it’s easier to blend (the skin warms up the product & makes it easier to blend maybe?). I also have the beauty blender but haven’t managed to learn to use it properly yet. :bummer:

Re: Makeup brushes

Maybe my wow!! is a bit premature and I'm still finding my way around makeup products but watching makeup artist videos, they always use makeup brushes. i figured it was just because they were professionals and were not allowed to touch other people's skin because of germs and what no, not sure, but are brushes really a good investment since I bought my first concealer, powder, foundation brushes today?

foundation is key...do you all use a brush to apply foundation?

Re: Makeup brushes

real techniques brushes are amazing. and cheap too

RG I have the same kind of brush by Sonia kashuk but I keep feeling I'm not using it right. I'm not really getting tge wow factor

Re: Makeup brushes

I used to apply foundation etc with fingers but started using brushes sometime back. I think they give a nice finish as opposed to using fingers.

Re: Makeup brushes

I like using a brush to spread the product (foundation) onto the entire face evenly but I always go-over with a slightly damp sponge for a seamless, flawless finish. I find brushes leave streaks and tiny tiny dots but are great for distributing product on the entire face.

Re: Makeup brushes

Auto! what's not working, the blending? are you using a liquid or cream based?

If aren't already, use a moisturizer wait 2 mins to let it soak in, then use the primer underneath and then apply the foundation. Again you don't see the wow effect, try another foundation?

Re: Makeup brushes

Maybe it's just a wow thing because I never used brushes before to apply makeup. You guys makin fun of me :p. Is the beauty blender used to prevent it from looking cakey because my pores tend to stand out more when I apply foundation to the right and left part of my cheek near my nose.

Re: Makeup brushes

My method is the same as Gina's.

I have used foundation brushes in the past and love the Shiseido one as a buffer. I use a basic flat foundation brush right now though just to pick up the product and place it.

The blending is always using a beauty blender which in my opinion is positively amazing.

Re: Makeup brushes

It's so true that it tends to get applied evenly with the foundation brush. I got the original beauty blender too but what's your method, soak it in water, squeeze out the water so the blender is moist but not soaking wet and then just pressing/bouncing it off the skin on the face or do you use a different method. I've heard great things about the blender but I feel like i'm not doing it right because i'm not getting the result that makeup artist youtube video people get.

Re: Makeup brushes

I don't soak it, I just squeeze it under a running tap a few times and then squeeze-out as much as the water as I can. I gently roll-it on a hand-towel and leave it on there till I'm done with my primer and foundation.

Re: Makeup brushes

I run it under the tap, make sure it doubles up in size the way its meant to, squeeze out excess water until damp but not wet and leave it while I apply primer, foundation, etc.

For blending, I bounce the BB all over the face while blending it, go over areas that need more coverage, etc. Its the material, the bouncing action, etc I think that delivers such great results. It takes practice but once you nail it, you're hooked.

Re: Makeup brushes

Agree with reha and gina....I use a flat foundation brush to distribute all over my face, than go back with Sonia Kashuk's version beauty blender, that has been dampened....it gives impeccable results!

As far as the "wow factor", I think the key is properly prepped/primed and hydrated skin

Re: Makeup brushes

^
Gina, Reha

do you toe have a video of how you do it with the beauty blender? When Doing contouring, do you rub the skin with the BB because I don't see how it's blends the bronzer and foundation if we're just bouncing it against the skin.

Re: Makeup brushes

I will look for a video on YT.

Basically, the blending is something you have to practice. You will apply your contouring color where you need it, apply foundation everywhere else with your brush. So you place the product with foundation brush.

With the BB, you're simply blending the lines and getting rid of any harsh foundation. You're gently "spreading" and eliminating any visible lines/streaks. You'd be doing sort of the same thing with a stipple brush...though I use stipple brushes for thinner foundations.

Re: Makeup brushes

GG, the difference between a brush and a beauty blender application is that a brush will distribute your product over an area while a sponge or bb will actually 'push' the product into your skin. I see a lot of pictorials where mua's have distinct lines of contour and highlights and then blend everything together. I apply my foundation all over my face, use a brush to spread it all over and then go over with my sponge/bb. It's after I've achieved an overall coverage that I go in with my contouring and highlighting. The beauty blender usually just does all the blending for you, just gently "tap" it over area a few times and you should see the product disappear into your skin.

Re: Makeup brushes

I apply my liquid foundation with a foundation brush, and then buff the foundation in using circular motions with the same brush. Probably not a conventional method, but it works for me. :hehe:
