^i am from dallas too, and my wedding was in dec 08!! :) oh i miss dallas... :( anyway...i had no luck either...the goras i went to either did the typical southern heavy cakey foundation or very very light...i wanted a happy medium of east and west... so after 5 or 6 trials..i decided to do it myself...and thank god.....the pics i took after the trials were horrible!!! and i did NOT want to look like that on my wedding! :)
*studio sila wanted to charge me $450 for the makeup and hair, plus traveling charges to dallas.. i also contacted face artistry, who wanted a min of $600 for booking charges, basically she said she books 1 wedding on saturdays and serves the entire bridal party... the desi salons suck..dirty, ruuuuude aunties, i just got my hair done at some salon in Irving and came back to the hotel to do my makeup. My mom pinned the dupatta....it all worked out Alhamdulilah!
oh really..well we are from tyler which is like an hour and half drive from dallas...which again sucks cuz we have to go back n forth for this crap...and you r so right, they r so rude and ajeeb se its unreal. My sister finally booked lAkme but they have no trials. She is really scared and is still looking for a way out of this. We heard MAC does it good. AGreed their make-up is good but i have too many friends getting their trials done from them and were not happy. They either did too light or too dark. Its so stressing...at least you knew how to do the make-up...we have no earthly idea hahahha....
oh i forgot to mention how crappy these aunties are that they wont go below 350 for make-up and hair style...

i had trials by 3 different MAC MUA, they had done wonderful makeup on themselves..but on me...it was such a huge disappointment...
desis!!! ahhhhh some painted my eyelids blue, green, pink, purple, red!!!! i was like..please do something that actually looks good...and they would shush me saying "bridal makeup aisa hota hai" ok great..
then i went to see a gori MUA who claimed on her website that she does runway models, magazines..etc..her portfolio looked great...i met her at her salon, actually she met me at a salon which i later found out that she doesnt work there..just meets up with her clients at the location..well i sat down and she painted my lids black! called it "dramatic" because thats what i had asked her to do...so...i got out as soon as i could washed up and went for another trial with a girl my photographer had recommended..
she barely touched my face, and called it a day!
alllll this despite my showing them pics of exactly what i wanted...
i gave up..and did it myself...nothing fancy though...

Mahi, i didnt have any desi vendors...(except for the food)
but i did contact them before i ruled them out...

furry,
i think you should go to different macs in your area and get trials done. don't go by anyone else's experience with makeup, everyone's choice/look is different. book a few appointments, preferably with a mac store manager. they usually have more experience and are usually very good.

hey guys, just for an update, I ended up getting my wedding make up done by MAC again despite having bad luck the first time around. I think what happened was I had no idea what to tell them, and since I’ve never worn makeup before (I hated it), everything looked heavy so I kept on telling them to do it light.
For my wedding I took a picture of the look I wanted with me, and I brought my aunt along with me, and they did it exactly the way I wanted it to, just perfect. I loved it. Even for the valima I went to the same MAC and they did a wonderful job. I think what made the difference was to have my aunt with me who knew a little bit more about makeup than me.
For hairstyle, and the rest of the dupatta setting, etc. I went to a family friend, Anisa, who works from home.
For wedding photographer, I recommend Monazza, from texpertz photographers. She did the photography at all my programs, and you can check out some of her work. You can email her about the rates. Most of the personal albums are locked but I’m sure you can find some that are not to take a look at.
