Maintaining weight loss.

Man its so hard does anyone have tips?

I reached my target weight woohoo! I was 74kg and went to 58 kg. I lost this weight over a period of 6-7 months.

Recently I have upped my eating slightly, not vastly just slightly. I still dont eat carbs regularly. I have like 2 treat meals a week.

So this week I had cheetos and a waffle with ice cream and nutella.

I weighed myself and I am 60 kg :frowning:

im so upset.

I weight myself on the same scales at the same time everyday.

I am still working out almost every day.

Any tips?

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

58 kg from 74 is like wow :D

how tall are you btw? Just eat healthy and get regular meals. The day you indulge in some sweet sinful delight lol, then you could either burn those extra calories by working out more. But there isn't a need to stress. As long as your weight fluctuates b/w 58-61 kg, I think you'd be ok. Just don't starve yourself :)

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Hmm...I don't know how well this would work...but how about setting aside a day of the week where you allow yourself to indulge...and give it a calorie limit. Like anything sweet...under 300 calories or something. OR....allow yourself a bit of laxity on a regular basis but give it a calorie limit.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

I want to see a before and after!

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Did you exercise to lose weight? If yes, then change up your routine.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

I think it's the weather....try working out in a fairly warm room.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

It is the weather.

The best way to maintain is you must EXERCISE. And when you have waffle icecream nutella train wreck then the next day work out an extra 10-20 minutes.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

2kg is not that much to be upset over after losing 16kg. well done.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

I could be wrong but once reaching your target weight, shouldn't one be aiming for a diet (eating habits) that maintain that weight without the need for working out every single day?

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

^Working out every day can put a quick end to the drive for working out, I think. At least work out a few times a week.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I am very pleased to reach my target weight but I am kinda sad it only lasted 2-3 days.

My calorie intake when I started my whole diet at my heaviest was low around 400 calories a day, thats low but I was on a special diety thing which I discussed with a GP and had a lady come and see me every week.

Then as my weight dropped I upped my calories, and stopped seeing this lady. I started eating 800-1200 towards the end and as I got fitter my work outs improved and intensified.

I just really dont want to be gain weight again but I dont want to have to eat 800 calories a day all my life :/ but maybe I have to?

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

^no you don't. Just keep up with the work-outs. at least 3 times a week. vary the work-outs, yoga one day, pilates one...just go jogging another.

try different foods and eat a lil bit of everything, too much of nothing.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

make sure you follow the guide for portion size. Have everything and the one day that you know your craving something have it during lunch rather than dinner so that you have a longer time to burn it off.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

I think you should drop the workouts to 3/4 times a week and figure out how much you need can eat to continue at this weight. It may be that you need to drop a bit more before you can reach an equilibrium. Also, it's probably what you eat rather than the calories. Those extra 400 calories to make it 1200 a day can be healthy things rather than ice cream and snacks.

Btw... do you buy lunch or make it?

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

I make lunch, I never buy lunch out unless its like a carton of soup where I can read the calories.

I can drop down to 52kg and still be of a healthy BMI, so I may try and lose a bit more weight and then try and maintain.

I eat healthy every day.

I only have 2 meals in the whole week which I eat whatever I want.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Mashah'Allah! Well done on the weight loss. You sound like me: from 74 to 58! Inshah'Allah I can make it too!

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Congrats on the weight loss Inspi! That’s awesome!!! I lost like 25kg’s (or a bit more) myself this year, but over the last two weeks I think I put on like 10 pounds (5 kg’s). I haven’t weighed myself but I def. feel it. Been a bit on a chocolate binge. Ok a lot on a chocolate binge. So yeah, back to dieting and stuff for me as well. Maintaining it is a b-word unfortunately. Just think, though, that you feel so much better for yourself now and use that as motivation not to go back to the old bad habits. That’s what keeps me going. You can do it too!

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

I am curious , what was your diet in 400 calorie diet regime ? I need some ideas...

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Inspiron, how do you space out your meals? I read this book by Rujuta Diwekar (a high profile Indian dietitian, with lots of Bollywood clients incl Kareena Kapoor) where she says you should eat a little something every 2 hrs or so. Not big meals, obviously! Even something like a fistful of dry fruits is good. That ups your metabolism without kicking in the starvation reflex. Her book isn’t really ground-breaking, but just common sense. For example she says if you want to have dessert, don’t eat it right after a meal. Wait for a couple hours and have it as an in-between mini-meal.
I’ve been trying to follow her recommendations and it has really helped me lose weight faster than exercise alone.

Re: Maintaining weight loss.

Congrats on your weight loss!!

Maybe you should reduce it to 1 meal a week to indulge instead of 2. You should let your weight stabilize for a few months. I know it is easier said than done.... but it is easy to gain weight and difficult to lose it. Eating is the main thing.
