I don’t know where ur getting this dodgy info from (along with ‘as per Islamic law’) but there is nothing written about the groom needing to pay half at nikkah and half at divorce. It’s perfectly fine (and less messy) to pay the whole lot up front if he wants to get it out of the way. It’s obvious that if it’s left till they divorce it’s likely the groom may not even pay up due to the bad feelings and the breakup of the marriage.. doesn’t make much sense if u think about it to pay only half the mehr and leave the rest for if/when they divorce..
