OMg seriously i have noticed this a lot too andonly in pakistanies, and it's soooo dumb and soo stupid .... IT's liek "dude i know your liein soo why???"... i hate that it's sooo sttupid and soooo dumb like seriously.

There are people who may actually look several years older than their age. They could be telling the truth when they say that they're 27-years-old and but may look like they're in their mid 30s. Conversely, there are some people may not be believed when they share their age because they look younger than it.

For women, it can be tougher. The whole notion of the younger the bahu the better, the more malleable she'll be. And also the view that the younger the more fertile, etc. Which can lead to women and even their parents reducing the age by a few years. Not justifying the practice. Who knows? Could be the same issue for some guys, who might think that reducing their age might get them whatever goal that they have in mind in terms of marriage.

Yup, it would be embarrassing if the real age is found out later. Although there are worse lies than tampering with your age. For example, deceiving someone about your educational/professional credentials, financial situation, religion, sexual orientation, previously known health problems, previous and even already existing marriages, etc.

I have no idea to be honest! One of my second cousins married a guy who must be in his mid-30s and she is only a few years older than me. I am sure that all the extended family now know how old he is, and say that they only said yes because of money, but Mashallah they are really happy, so I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run if people find out or whatever, as I don't think it is exactly a deal breaker like some of the other things people could lie about.

I have never heard of people lying about girl's ages though?

Not looking your age is a totally diff thing. And i never said lying about your age is the ultimate crime or that you can't get worse than that BUT i do believe its seriously very unfair.

I previously thought only girls n their parents lie about their age... but from my experience, I found guys and their parents to lie about age as often as girls do and I really find it pathetic as guys should not be as conscious about their age... Personally, my mom had never ever lied about my age to the prospective in-laws and we have always been careful to be as truthful as possible about age as well as for other issues...
