Lyari operation in Karachi

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

and depoliticization of the police force as well! :(

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

I think this answers your question:

Baloch solidarity:

****KARACHI: **Hundreds of Baloch Colony residents blocked the Shaheed-e-Millat Expressway on Sunday in protest against the ongoing police operation in Lyari.

**
Young men blocked the road for more than an hour and burnt tyres while women and children chanted slogans against the Pakistan Peoples Party’s government.

**“We have cousins and friends who live in Lyari and they have run out of food,” said Baloch Colony resident, Iqbal. “There are gangsters on one side and policemen on the other, but what about the innocent people getting killed?”
**

The traffic coming from Korangi, Defence Housing Authority and Shahrae Faisal was forced to turn back. The few policemen present at the scene reportedly did not intervene.

**Many families from the disturbed area of Lyari have moved in with relatives living in Baloch-dominated localities. Their plight and the news of police action have spread anger among the Baloch.
**

**“We know that there are criminals and gangsters in Lyari but when will the police take action against those hiding in Orangi or New Karachi,” asked another resident, Yaseen Baloch.
**

Among the protests, there was cheering for the leader of the banned Peoples Amn Committee, Uzair Jan Baloch, one of the main targets of the police action. “Ek Lyari sab per bhari,” shouted the people, followed by, “Uzair Baloch zindabad, Uzair Bhai zindabad.”

**Protests also took place at Jehangir Road, Baloch Para, Soldier Bazaar and Malir but authorities insisted that people were forced to come out of their homes. “The police action is against criminals, not any particular party or group,” clarified the south zone deputy commissioner, Jamal Mustafa Qazi, saying that these were attempts to keep the police out of Lyari. “These criminals are encouraging people to protest by giving the operation an ethnic angle.”

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

It looks very bad. Reminds me of mexican police operations against cartels

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

These Lyari Gang war criminals are on roads now - they are looting and creating chaos in adj areas .... markets in kahradar area were attacked and M.A Jinnah road is blocked !

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

I just hope this war does not spin out of control. May Allah provide the rulers with vision and strength to get rid of this issue as soon as possible.

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

Lyari issue is a case of chicken coming home to roost for PPP. Lyari was/is the criminal wing of PPP, and now with MQM being a partner, PPP govt has been forced to take action against their own pet criminals, which has seriously backfired. Politically affiliated police forces arent much help either. Wonder when it will end, and how it will end.

Lyari operation in Karachi

Worst part is,our police has no latest weapons, they are using weapons from china according to news sources...police men who r there for days have been eating cold paratai n tea ,if we are serious enough to combat against internal criminal agents then we should do some thing to cope wid these situations....after all policemen r also human...

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

I actually doubt that. karachi police looks very well equipped. they have AKs, M16s, G3s, BPJs and other assorted weapons with bulletproof vehicles. i was surprised to see machine guns and APCs with karachi police.
on the other hand miscreants have AKs and pistols and may be rocket launchers.

likely problem is their training and will. in the video you can see them shooting aimlessly at no apparent target.
door to door search and fight is not something police is capable of doing. it is a job of SWAT teams and trained professionals.

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

The government blames the security forces for the deterioration in law and order situation in balochistan but this crisis is 100% created by themselves.

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

Lyari operation enters fifth day | DAWN.COM

**KARACHI: The‘Grand Operation’ in Lyari](http://dawn.com/2012/04/27/grand-operation-begins-in-lyari/)entered its fifth day as clashes between law-enforcement agencies and heavily armed criminals continued, DawnNews reported.
**
The criminals resorted to the use of hand-grenades and rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) in addition to the use of sophisticated and automatic weapons against the security forces.

A policeman identified as Tufail was killed during the clashes near Cheel Chowk, moreover two more people lost their lives when police came under heavy gunfire and rocket attacks while progressing deeper into the areas near Cheel Chowk and Baghdadi colony.

Ten people were injured when a mini rocket propelled grenade landed on the upper story of a hotel in Lea Market. Police shifted the injured to a near-by hospital for treatment.

The authorities’ move to block mobile phone access in the area failed as the criminals were using walkie-talkies to communicate with each other. It was disclosed that the criminals are in procession of more than a hundred sets of walkie-talkies.

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

whts strange is that life is pretty much normal for people who live outside of Lyari and many have no clue whats happening in there...

. I agree, but havingAk's n G3'setc is not considered enough,in my view police should be givin latest equpments like our army has,u know the chain machine they were using we're from Hyderabad police, other blood proof vehicles were in so bad conditions, not in proper working condition, they were repairing it on place...I hv heard that Sc has ordered rangers to join police in Oprtn but still no sign of them in this, actually CiD is handling it...

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

^ I think there would be a problem of not having latest weapons but the biggest issue is a politicized police force.

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

No the this operation is lead by some serious CID officers who are working against TTP also, tehy have gathered alot of information abt the attive crminal agents in karachi n they r on hit list also,in CID there's no politics, ,the thing is wen they try to put hands on someone who hv afilliation with some party then the party covers the criminal same as in rehman dacoit case.....the war is bw the group wich nabeel gabol has n one wich zulfiqar mirza has, they both clam that liyari is theirs, its quite interesting that they r not in picture ritenow....and its interestig as well that this is happening in PPp's Govt, don u think that if there would have been any politics behind then this operation might not be happening ritenow....
u know there's case filed aginst Choudary Aslam in court aginst liyari OP...

Re: Lyari operation in Karachi

The members of Sindh assembly are demanding the same.

Lawmakers want end to political meddling in police dept | DAWN.COM

KARACHI: Members of the Sindh Assembly demanded on Monday an immediate end to political interference in the transfers and postings in the police department and stressed the need for tenure posting.
The demand came during the Sindh Assembly session when the house initiated a general discussion on the law and order situation in the province on a motion moved by Law Minister Ayaz Soomro.
Sardar Jam Tamachi of the Pakistan People’s Party observed that no one could deny that the situation in Karachi was quite serious.
Tracing the history of deterioration in the system, he said since 1985 when new districts were carved out as fiefdoms to influential people, where postings of officials, especifically those of the police, were made on their choice. But now the situation called for a pledge not to make political interference at least in the police and education departments and all postings be made on merit and the officials be given a free hand with tenure postings otherwise the system would further deteriorated, he observed.
Muhammad Anwar Mahar of the PPP said that progress could not be possible without peace and protection of life.
He said without ensuring justice and elimination of corruption the situation could not improve.
He also called for providing better wages and facilities to the police.
Lyari situation
Minister Sassui Palejo said the law and order situation was not restricted to Lyari alone and similar conditions prevailed in other parts of the city also. Therefore, she said, people asked them that why the operation was being carried out only in Lyari and why its parameter was not being expanded to criminals in other areas.
Manzar Imam of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement said that why Karachi and other towns of the province were being targeted where people were being kidnapped for ransom and those who failed to pay ransom were being killed.
He referred to the localities of Kati Pahari, Banaras Colony in Orangi and asked the authorities that which elements were active there and who had turned those localities into killing fields.
He warned of a conspiracy to trigger sectarian riots and said that the same had been averted due to efforts of the MQM and PPP leaderships.
He said his elders had selected Sindh as their permanent abode like old Sindhis, and had come here to live and die.
Tahir Qureshi of the MQM said it was not an operation in Lyari but a war where criminals were using heavy weapons, firing rockets and throwing hand-grenades at law-enforcement personnel.
Speaker Nisar Khuhro put off further discussion on law and order till Thursday.
