Re: Lunch At Work

Where do you work?

My husband works for a multi national company (mentioning this so users will have an idea of the kind of office/work setting he has) & I give him stuff from Biryani/Pulaos to Shwarma wraps/Fajita rolls to Daal Chawal with salad & Bhindi with roti/naan to Chinese meals (soup, rice & entree) to Fried chicken with slaw & fries to what not. He also eats out at times.

He has never had an issue at work. In fact back when we lived in a not so culturally diverse state, more than often his colleagues would want to “take a bite” from his food. Some were intrigued. Some thought he was lucky to be able to bring home made meals with so much variety.

I remember once I sent home made naans with a Chicken vinegar salan & he came home & told me he had to eat from the cafeteria because all his gora colleagues ended up eating his food.

For those of you that feel conscious taking home cooked Desi meals. Its all about Indian/Pakistani food these days. Just like how people are aware of what a Lasagna/Orange Chicken/Shawarma/Sushi is, the same way they do know what Naan, Saag, Makhni & Biryani is.

Muzna you are lucky person to have a place that is serving such deliciousness & that too Halal.

Re: Lunch At Work

^ It actually depends. If you eat where you work (grabbing a bite at your desk), sometimes the smells are very strong and last for a while. What you or I may like, others may have an aversion to, i.e. the smell of bacon is a bit of an ick factor.

I remember in our old offices, microwave popcorn was banned because it leaves such a strong smell for a long while after its made. One of the my colleagues couldn’t stand the smell of oyster sauce (or maybe it was fish sauce) that a Malaysian woman used in her cooking. So it’s not the particular smell so much as the how strong the smell is and how long it takes to dissipate.

That being said, the same rule should apply to eating in cafeterias.

Re: Lunch At Work

Is taking fish to work a huge no-no?

Re: Lunch At Work

of course not…why would it be?
I’ve brought grilled salmon numerous times.

today’s menu:

three cheese ravioli topped with mango jerk chicken with red pasta sauce
sprinkled every so lightly with parmesan

Re: Lunch At Work

it depends. will you be heating it up in the microwave? that can be bad.

also what fish is it? all my favs like herring, mackerel, smelt.. smell too much. :teary1: if its the comparatively flavorless white ppl fish like salmons and cods.. its usually ok if you don’t microwave it.

Re: Lunch At Work

crispy skin grilled salmon in a light dijon mustard sauce with potatoe timbale and steamed veggies (broccoli, onions and carrots)
french onion soup on the side…

Re: Lunch At Work

Queer said it..cz it could smell? But I guess that’s if it’s hoem made with lots of masalas.

Ok so another stupid question, but if you don’t microwave it then do you just end up eating it cold/lukewarm???

Re: Lunch At Work

This thread has given me so many ideas for new recipes I need to try out!

Re: Lunch At Work

here’s another idea Guac…

teriyaki chicken tossed with spanish onions, carrots, peas, spring onions and bean sprouts served on a bed of fragrant, jasmine rice.

oh so good!

Re: Lunch At Work

I hear ya! I’d do the same.

Strong smells kinda suck especially during pregnancy (hands up whose pregnant?) and when I used to work out of the house previously I’d have my lunch and actually ask everyone what they were eating so I could run out of the room if the smells would be offensive to my nose.

Saying that I wish more people thought like you Sara, it would make life easier for everyone.

Smell I cannot stand-bacon butties and sausages-BLERGH.

Re: Lunch At Work

ricotta cheese and baby spinach stuffed manicaotti
moistened with pomodoro sauce and sprinkled with parmesan…
greek salad on the side.

Re: Lunch At Work
