I thought I would let you know about lubna rafiq’s ridiculous prices.
I know she sounds like a lovely woman but she quoted me £200 for party make up and an extra £50 for travel charges even though I live right outside the London area. She said she would charge £150 for party make up if there were more than 2 people requiring make up.
She quoted me £380 for engagement make up and hair and £440 if the function is in 2011.
I mean im sure a lot of you will agree that her prices are ridiculous. Her make up tends to be natural anyway so why charge a complete bomb! And why has she increased the price by £60 per year! I’m in shock to be honest and god knows how much she charges for bridal hair and make up.
So on that note does anyone know a decent make up artist in the London area for engagement hair and make up? Thanks x
You cannot call anyone rip off if you do not like their pricing structure. If she cheated you in any way that can be called a rip off. But calling someone rip off because you do not like their prices is quite a drag.
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone it's just that I personally find her prices sky high, I mean I'm sure that some people may find her prices reasonable but I'm just putting my opinion across to share my experience with others
rips off is also in a way a slang term used in the uk, for someone whos price is way above the norm, plus as you say, someone who has been cheated also..
back to mua in london - i used annie shah for my brothers wedding, and shes in all the mags, so thought we were in safe hands, but i wasnt to happy, its a shame all the makeup looks amazing in the mags, but its so air brushed!

Oh no I was considering Annie shah, what did she do wrong?
Did she explain why she was charging 60 pounds extra per year????
No but she does increase her prices every year, I mean email her if you're requiring a quote. I think i would only ever consider her for
My wedding but god knows how much she would charge.
Because Lubna Rafiq is amazing at what she does....
You forget even achieving the clean look is amazing. Her foundation does not budge in hot weather , she provides you with your own loose powder and before the day she will tell you to buy a specific brush for leaky eyes etc.
My cousin recently had her at her wedding, she looked so radiant.
Do you really want to look like a drag queen on your wedding!!! with annie shah etc they use far to much eye make up.
I was a fan of naveeda but she has gone rather down hill. Glam faces and aveena are so much so better! price wise aswell.

I do agree with what your saying and that's why I would consider lubna for my wedding, however I'm saying that her prices for party makeup are very high in comparison to most other make up artists. So that's why I'm having a tough time finding one within my budget.
Jawad ashraf is good and quoted me £400 for full bridal hair and makeup. I mean once lubna puts the travel charge on I'm looking at £600 for one day, and I live right outside the London area and it would never cost £50 in travel charges to travel.
They all charge ALOT for party make up :) the big names will defo charge £100 + for party make up. Also they all charge travel fee, don't forget if your outside of their quick travel area they are losing time on another potential bridal.
I've spoken to far to many make up artists :|
One of my very good friends did her own wedding day/ walima make up. She just asked her sister to put her eyelashes on, and had her hair put up in a salon and then the hairdresser came with her ( they charged about £25 the treatment on the reciept was cut wash and blow dry taking an hour) and then she pinned her duppata to her hair fixed any strays and went back to work!!
All in all in cost her £ 70 for the hair , and she bought all her make up for her wedding which she could use after wards too!! If i were any good at make up i'd do this. No one knows your face better than you!
Re to Annie shah, I looked very dated and I’m not that old, and had far to make eye makeup on, I think for the price me and my mum paid, (mum looked rather drag queen like)
It really wasn’t worth it, I’m not from London, so maybe its London prices, but I when I saw her work in the mag, and I was really looking forward to our makeup, so sadly was disappointed, esp as I think she does have a talent!
There is a couple of things though, I felt she was in a hurry, and didn’t really listen to what I say saying.
She had a bride after us, and had been to 2 brides previous to us
And my hair was awful, although my mum’s hair was nice. But if you are thinking of using her get a trial done, which is the best idea, what I have noticed some mua spend good time and make effort for brides, not so much with party makeup
And unfort there was some attitude, I mean if it were free fare enough but I am paying for it. 1 week later I booked a local, lesser known artist how has a great attitude and made me look great and main thing FEEL great!!
This is just what happened to me personally! Phew rant over! :) xx
The "big name" make-up artists charge so much because they're in demand, they probably have to turn brides away cause they're so fully booked up. Let's face it there are plenty of people who can afford to pay £500+ and if you were a make-up artist and you'd probably be chasing after these kind of clients instead of the budget brides.
Most Asian MUA in London are like this, not just her and its because they are so popular and in demand. Because of their high profiles they can afford to put their prices up, all ur paying for is the brand name not the quality. personally if u want natural makeup on ur engagement I would recommend u try gor'e MUA's they charge much less.
I saw work of some white women recently in the London area and her makeup was amazing she actually did it on my cousin and I was shocked when she told me it was done by a gori. She charges around £75 for hair and makeup. if ur interested pm me and I can ask my cousin for her details
