Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Re: Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam could be next COAS

This is what we need to see.

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

It seems he does not want to continue after 29 November. The Army Chief himself has had to put down the rumors instead of the government.

PM sb should announce the next COAS and JCSC now.

Welcome to ISPR

My tenure ends on 29th November 2013. On that day I will retire. May the Almighty Allah help and guide us all."

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Kayani announced his retirement instead of PM announcing a new one showing how hesitant NS has been throughout his first 100 days.

Maybe it was done so that PM can make Najam Sethi interim COAS? ;)

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Kiyani said that he is "NOT interested" in extensions as the army chief...this doesn't mean that he'll NOT accept it...

...well, he is gonna be offered a more plump job...that of either Joint Chief of Armed Forces ?] or the Embassador to the U.S.A.

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Sharif has been reluctant, confused and indecisive in everything he has done so far, except doling out laptops and inconsequential loans to the youth. Be it actualizing APC's decision or letting the dollar to ruin the rupee, he appears to have forgotten even the basics of ruling a country.

Given the overall situation created from his rule, I am exalted — from the bottom of my heart — that the nation is getting what it had asked for.

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Too early to judge. Performance should be gauged at least after one year of rule. Governance of KP is not good either. But after one year, the situation will be more clear.

Hahahahaha LOL

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

It seems that instead of Naval Chief Admiral Sandila, Haroon Aslam (the senior most general after Kayani) will be appointed CJCSC (so seniority is a curse rather than a blessing in his case since the post is largely ceremonial) and Rashid Mahmood (the next senior most lieutenant general) who hails from Lahore will become the next COAS.

This is all assuming that Kayani is really retiring

Gen Rashid likely to be new army chief

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Lahore being the deciding factor again. Just like how it played its part when several ministers were appointed :P

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

If kayani really retired I think his decision would salvage at least a bit of his honour.

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

So I guess the WSJ posted fabricated information. A news article that was full of "special sources" that were all wrong. How weird....

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

It seems the only thing in which he was quick enough was announcing his election ‘victory’.

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

What is the purpose of JCSC in Pakistan? In america, it is about coordination between branches and one branch doesn't hog it. In fact, with the new doctrine, there are command groups where a naval admiral might be a boss to any army general in a theater of war like in an instance if they require army, navy and marines in an area depending upon the situation.

Re: Lt.Gen Haroon could be next COAS | Kayani retires

Yeah it's a mixed bag. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee is more of a US military concept (I don't think they have such a post in the British army) while Pakistani army is modelled on the British armed forces
