It would appear to have increased. Obviously certain factors taken into consideration.
Maybe the medication should be continued...it seems to be having a good effect.
Doc appointment booked for the 24th. lets see what he has to say now.
Out of interest 0.3 of 20 mil is how many? i thought it was something like 700000ish?

SC, I could be wrong here....but my impression was that the count is usually expressed in terms of millions. If that is the case then .3 of 1 million would be like 300,000 and the increase to 3 million is a factor of 10.
If they expressed the count as .3 out of 20 million, you're right it would be around 700 thou giving an increase of about a factor of 5 give or take.
Either way, a nice increase! and since it does actually take 3 months for the little swimmers to develop and mature I think the full benefit of this medication has yet to be reached yeah?

hmmm...confusing...but no matter how you slice it, it looks to me like the count was increased by a factor of 10. Maybe you can call the lab and ask them to explain the meaning of their results?
Anyway, the latest test was done after 6 weeks of treatment I think you said? To get a tenfold increase so quickly is great! Another tenfold increase in the next 6 weeks would put them right where they need to be!

Ok so the doctor has more or less said that the new result was probably just an average. He has also more or less confirmed that apart from "taking the sperm putting in the egg" thing.
The couple have asked for time to think whether they should continue the treatment (hikmat +unani) or go for the ivf!
The doctor didnt really elaborate on blocked tubes in the guy even when prompted!

What kind of questions should they ask the doctor.?
At the moment The doctor has only said that the chromosomes in the male are fine. The female is fine too. So they want to go with IVF.
The doctor didnt really seem to want to explore the possibility of blocked tubes in the male. In fact the doctor hasnt really even tried to look into the reasons of the low sperm count.
Does anyone else think that the increase in sperm count can be explained by "an average"?. Is that much of an increase really a coincidence?

I dont knoww SC...it seems to me that a tenfold increase cannot be explained by "averages". I guess the doc is right in a way, to point them towards IVF because even with the increase the count is still way too low. Most patients I think just want to get on with trying for pregnancy.
Maybe the guy should tell his doc that at this point, he wants to find out more about why his count is low rather than go for IVF. If his doc is still uncooperative maybe its time to switch to a different doc. Theres a link earlier in this thread about possible causes of low count and whether they can be corrected...maybe show him that so he can see exactly what kinds of things a good doc will look for.

Well the doctor had kinda made out that if the result was 0.3 million the first time and it was 3 million the next it could easily be explained away by a slight "variation". Also i think the doctor had said that one cycle of treatments will be paid for on the NHS (national health service). After that, well it seems to be a costly affair!
I think the point im trying to make here is that the doctor didnt seem shocked at the increase of the sperm so maybe the alternate medicine isnt working!

SC, I'm not a doc and am not that familiar with how they evaluate the results, I just thought that a tenfold increase seemed so positive. But even so, I'm aware that the count is still way too low for conception to occur - I mean surely its a possibility but a really, really unlikely one yeah?
This couple needs to make a decision...whether to persue the cause of low count or whether to just go ahead with IVF. Its a big decision for sure. On the one hand, they know there's a problem and I'm sure they;d like to know why. On the other hand, they want a baby and can persue that thru IVF. They'll have to decide which approach they'd prefer. If they want to persue the whys of the problem, they should seek a different doc I think since the one they have now doesnt seem all too interested in that part. If its not a big deal to them and they just want to try IVF then they just go ahead with it. Since the cost for the first round is apparently covered anyway, they might just opt for that route...but its surely a really personal decision yeah? I hope they find what they seek.

I think the couple are intending to keep on taking the Unani +hikmat medicine. The IVF option will always be there but as a last option.
But i dont think the couple will be that well off to try IVF multiple times. They are something like £3K each time!
