Low calorie finds!

Does anyone know of food products that we can eat by itself as a snack or use in recipes that are low in calories or calorie free? If so, list those items here. Here is list of some of the great low calorie foods I know of:

Snacks:
Newtons Fruit Crisps, Apple Cinnamon - If you haven’t tried these yet, you are missing out, BIGTIME! You get TWO large, flakey, sweet, crunchy, cinnamon-apple Crisps for 100 calories, 2g fat, 20g carbs, 0g fiber, and <1g protein
Yoplait Light, Apple Turnover - This is my most favorite yogurt in the world. And it’ll even kick a craving for the real fat-filled dessert. A 6-oz. container has just 100 fat-free calories, 19g carbs, 0g fiber, and 5g protein
Fiber One Chewy Bars, Oats & Apple Streusel -Each bar has 130 calories, 2g fat, 31g carbs, 9g fiber, and 2g protein It’s got that rich apple pie taste without tasting fake, icky, or overwhelming.

Sara Lee Bites, Caramel Cheesecake and Cookies 'n Creme Cheesecake - 20-calorie frozen cheesecake nuggets! Enjoy five of 'em for around 100 calories, 5g fat, 10g carbs, 0g fiber, and 1g protein . BTW, DO NOT eat the recommended serving size of 24. AAAAAAH!
Dinners/meals:

Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers - These feature a built-in steaming technology, which ensures that your rice or pasta doesn’t get all soggy and gross. Available in Rotini & Zesty Marinara Sauce, Sesame Teriyaki Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Szechwan Beef with Asian Style Noodles, Ziti & Meat Sauce, and Southwestern Style Chicken. Each package has 300 - 390 calories, 2.5 - 6g fat, 56 - 78g carbs, 3 - 8g fiber, and 10 - 15g protein (ive never tried this but heard of it and wouldn’t recommend the meat ones if you eat halal cuz hese are an American brand and therefore are not “halal”)

Contessa Green Cuisine Stir-Fry Meals - These are frozen bagged meals They’re packed full of lean protein and veggies. No irritating starchy carbs. AND the sauce comes on the side (perfect for control freaks like me). I suggest the shrimp for halal eaters like me but it also comes in beef and chicken, a serving of each without sauce (1 1/2 - 2 cups) has 120 - 150 calories, 1.5 - 3g fat, 11 - 14g carbs, 3 - 4g fiber, and 13 - 17g protein If you use ALL the sauce, it’ll add around 60 - 80 calories (and no fat) to each serving.
******La Tortilla Factory Tortillas **- Look for the 80-calorie, 12-gram-of-fiber large ones called Smart & Delicious Low Carb/High Fiber.

Re: Low calorie finds!

I am not a fan of fiber one bars..but they sure keep me full. It is a good on-the-go snack.

Re: Low calorie finds!

^ thanks for letting us know! I have been looking for a snack to keep me full until my next meal so I can stop over snacking. I have had fiber one bars long ago and yeah, they don't taste great as I remember em but I really need a fulfilling healthy low cal snack. Any other recommendations?

Re: Low calorie finds!

Apples with Peanut Butter keep me full as well...you can skip the PB if you are worried about calories.

phooljari786: Its about time you introduced yourself to a wonderful vegetable called celery. It wont fill you up (its just water and fibre) but its a great way to snack and munch all day long without ANY side effects. Celery is a negative calorie food, i.e. your body uses more juice to burn celery than it extracts from it. Always have some diced celery handy and in the fridge for those times when you just want to munch on something and it really doesn't matter what it is. Have it with a low fat dip and youve got yourself the perfect snack.

Snack on fruits and veges all day and then treat yourself with one real dessert, even if its a mars bar, instead of all these "light" low calorie products. You'll save a ton of money too.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Low calorie finds!

^Thanks captain lota. I already know of the benefits of celery but HATE the taste. I get sick even smelling it! Yeah, I am going to start snacking mostly on fruits/veggies. I can have some veggies handy with light dip. Maybe I'll make a fruit salad, a big quantity I can snack on in the fridge. I can also add sugar free jello to the side. At the end of the week I can treat myself to a small candy bar..mars..mmm..or 3 muskateers, or snickers..ooh babe ruth..too many to choose from..hehe

Re: Low calorie finds!

Hey there! Any other ideas to keep me full for at least 4-5 hours or more without breaking the calorie bank?? I am desperate. Lately I have been eating lots of chocolate and I used to eat these amazing small cakes from a near by bakery every other week but have stopped. I ate chocolate last yesterday. For some reason I ate chocolate for the last 2 weeks without feeling guilty. I ate some milk chocolate lindt bars, the one where you break off squares and I ate like 3-5 squares a day without care maybe from all the stress of work and school. (it may not sound like much but I have gained 5 pounds within the first year and a half of marriage) I know 100 calorie packs exist but they are too expensive and don't satisfy me much. After eating one pack I want another or look for another snack and sometimes turn to unhealthy ones. Fruit is a good one but I live too far from a grocery store. Well, I mean by car its only 10 minutes but my hubby and I have not got a car yet. We take the train. I tried taking the train to the grocery store and bad idea! I couldn't carry all those heavy groceries and had to take a cab back home. Ever so often my husband and I rent a car and go to the 1/2 hour away Indian plaza which has fresh and almost affordable fruits/veggies but by train it is 1 hour and 10 minutes. I love renting a car especially since my hubs lets me do most of the driving as I don't mind it and love it but its too expensive to rent a car every week or month and zip cars are only good for a few hours then they become expensive. Thanks for any help or ideas. Healthy yet fulfilling and satisfying is what I am looking for! Again, thanks everyone and anyone...

Re: Low calorie finds!

i noticed today if you eat broccoli with light ranch dip b4 eating dinner u feels really full, also i read somewhere that eating something like pickles kills ur eat sweets craving. i'm trying not to eat sweet at all (even low cal stuff) cuz i notice it makes me want to keep eating sweet. i'm trying to break the addiction!

Re: Low calorie finds!

Thanks for your input everyone..broccoli actually tastes good to me raw and I love ranch dip but like you said ranch light dip..ranch light dip is lighter in calories but if eaten in small quantities. I wouldn't mind having that! Yeah, you are so right, eating sweets, even if light in calories can make me crave for more! But its all about portion control. Maybe I can have a small portion of sweet per week. Eek per week!! It'll be hard but I know I can do it. Before marriage, about 3 years ago, I would stay off of sweets for a month at a time and when I saw sweets like chocolate I wouldn't want it because I would think of the consequences. People started telling me I was too thin and I should reward myself for my hard dieting then I slipped and ate bad stuff I shouldn't and got off track. Now I am not as skinny as then but not what is considered fat but in between. We shall see if this broccoli thing works..hope it does. And Nadz, I agree, of all the foods celery shouldn't have been the one with great benefit of having negative calorie effects when we eat it..it should have been something more palatable like carrots or even tomatoes. Oh well, I hope I can do it!

Re: Low calorie finds!

thanks

Re: Low calorie finds!

for the ranch dip, i get the little containers that are pre-portioned 70 cals. but even i feel that is too much and i usually eat half. yea i still do eat sweets on the weekend though. i love my sweet!

Re: Low calorie finds!

^Good to know. Thanks

Re: Low calorie finds!

Why am I craving food all the time? Thank God I have not gained too much weight for all that I am eating. I exercise about 2 hours a week..sometimes a little less. I also walk everywhere I go so that helps. I feel like I think about food all day and eat about six different things within an hour or two..I am not and cannot be pregnant so don't suggest that. I know the obvious reasons why I cannot be so but..I usually crave unhealthy stuff like chocolate and snack like items. Today I tried eating more healthy. I had an apple instead but it was a small one and didn't fill me..oof..I'll have to reasearch this..I cannot gain anymore weight..I no longer fit into my dress I love so much..Its tight on me to the point I cannot button it. I'll just have to excercise extra well and eat more healthy.

Re: Low calorie finds!

u know what this was kinda happening to me to, so i've started keeping a food journal. and i'm eating gum :) before i used to track cals in my head but then when i realized when i ate more than i wanted to, i would reduce the cals that i'd eaten b4(if that makes sense). anyhoo now everytime i eat something i write it in a journal along with the cals to keep track. diff things work for diff ppl. i personally have never been in the habit for lunch but then ended up eating so much for dinner, so now i eat 3 fruits btwn breakfast and early dinner and eat grapefruit and broccoli b4 eating or some veggie so i don't overload.

i've also written down my goals, so i can read them everytime i feel like bingeing. it's helping
