So, in the past 4 or 5 months, I’ve had atleast two people be completely surprised at my age.
One time, me and hubby were talking to a dude to establish school savings funds for our son. The guy was talking about general savings and how much we can invest and take big risks with stocks depending on our age. He then looks at my husband and says “yeah I’m guessing you guys are fairly young and can easily go for stocks that are a lot riskier, you must be about 30 (which is right for hubby) and you (looking at me) can’t be more than 28”. Now ofcourse, this guy is trying to sell us stocks and some sort of savings plans etc so he’s gonna try to be flattering right? So if he is saying i can’t be more than 28, it means he must think i’m in my 30s. I just turned 26!
Then this morning, I am buying my coffee and there’s a new dude working at the coffee shop who happens to be desi. So ofcourse the usual interview ensued asking me how long i’ve been here etc etc. He then asks me “so how old is your oldest kid?”. I reply “he just turned 2” and the guy looked totally surprised. He was like “oh so you are really young”. ummm YEAH!
I’ve never had this kind of experience before. I guess I’m asking how people determine someone’s age. My skin does kinda suck, I have large pores and some pigmentation, but nothing major. I have normal desi hair and I usually do make an effort to straighten them or style them in some way. However, I never wear any makeup. My morning routine is just to get my hair done, moisturizer on face, vaseline on lips, perfume.
Thats it.
So, how do you judge someone’s age? Do you look for wrinkles? Their dressing style? Amount of effort that went into their makeup? How can I look more like my age?
it's hair style, skin, your clothes, weight - all combined that can give you an "older" look.
Go for a change. try a new trendy haircut, new outfit that is not your usual, get in some exercise and time for a facial or a exfoliating treatment to boast up your face.
i dont know but do 28 26 30 etc look different? i know people who have looked the same from 20s to mid 30s. i know those who looked like mini unclejis at 20. mostly i think if you are overweight, you look older, if you are slim you look young. skin pores etc are secondary.

This!
Get a new haircut.. wear trendy clothes.. change yourself and you'll be looking atleast your age again if not younger.
A lot of people think I’m older than my sisters, when I’m the youngest inmy family. I wear hijab (they don’t) and I wear more make up than them (they hardly wear any), plus I come across as a bit more confident than them, so people automatically assume I’m the eldest. Plus my sisters look like teenagers, no joke. My 30 years old sister looks like a 16 years old
On the plus side, I met Colourful Eyes a few months back when she came to do my make up for my sister’s wedding. She thought I was 18 or 19 I’m in my mid 20s.
Invest in some good makeup. This is one place where you should splurge if your wallet allows. Mineral powder if very good for large pores. Drink lots of water, improve your diet, eat healthy, and pay attention to how you dress. Keep up with personal grooming - ie threading. I would also advise not use toners, astringents, and harsh cleansers. Just use an apricot scrub.
I wouldn't suggest to wear globs of makeup but use something like bare minerals powder.

i think in general people who look more put together look younger than they are. If you are well dressed, keep your hair neat, and have clean makeup, it makes a big difference. Weight is also a big factor and i think for women, height also plays a role. Petite women generally look younger than their age, at least that's what i've noticed in the workplace.
But in both cases it could be that you said something that made them think that you look older than you actually are.. for example, if you mentioned you have more than one child, it would be pretty normal for someone to think you're in your 30's.
I think its not the weight or skin that portrays whether u look younger or older but more often than not...its the way you carry yourself...and most importantly your genes!
why does it matters to you i am 22 and ppl think i am 16-18 i never mind
You don't mind b/c people think you're YOUNGER than your actual age. If someone told you that you look 30.....I highly doubt that would make you feel happy. :)
get bangs! i did, and although i was never mistaken for my age, now i'm being told i look 18!
but i also have a round face and cheeks and those, apparently, are partly to blame.
