Update:
When nothing happened till March, the lawyers was asked repeatedly for status or the reason for the delay. Lawyer failed to return most of the calls. Decision was made to go to another lawyer. One was selected, a Pakistani lawyer this time. He asked for a copy of the file from the original lawyer. Copy was obtained but was missing some of the emails correspondence to the gov't. The copy was provided to the new lawyer and he began to tick off the mistakes in the file rapidly. I looked at the copy later on and I can't tell you the unbelievable feeling I had. We don't know why the application wasn't rejected. Last names were wrong, the date of employment for the guy was earlier then his date of birth, the present address of the people applying for the guy was the one they moved "from" 4 years ago. The girl's information was not also correct. We were like....... sigh.... this or go and do something to the lawyer. Khair... the new lawyer said to wait since a rejection hasn't come in yet and they might consider the application, still, since the newer application has reference the rejection of the K-1 from before.
Mid-March: Got the approval ! but the name came up on "The" ghuDa list and that took two weeks for the chaukidaars to investigate.
April 9th - Got the I-130 approval in hand!
Lawyer said for the guy to go to Islamabad and get a interview date. He's sending the forms overnight today to the guy that the embassy in Pakistan would send. This would save time since we know how things work in Pakistan. Once he has the papers in hand (cutting short about 2-3 months in this manner) he can walk in and ask for an interview date. Since the papers are U.S. attorney attested they won't try to play delay tactics.
So far the process has been a bit of a headache. We estimate loosing about 2-3 months due to first lawyer's mishandling the paperwork. We plan to file grievences with the City and State law governing bodies.

A related case: One of my friend is already in the US (in TX) on F-1 visa, a grad student. He is getting married to this Muslim girl. The guy is Pakistani, the girl with Dubai origin (i.e. girls parents). Girl is a naturalized citizen, who came to the US at an early age, and has the US passport. Now if she sponsors this guy for green card, what would be the procedure, precautions, time, etc. thanks.
