Looking for comedy in GS world

I have not seen the movie yet, but it kept me thinking :hmmm:

Firstly the name of that movie should have been *Looking for comedy in Muslim world **in english language. ***
I think the movie just speaks on loud speaker about the depth of american understanding of different cultures.

There is a wealth of high quality artistic humour in Pakistan, be it prose(ibne-insha), poetry(Zameer Jafery), drama(Anwar Maqsood), stand up comedy(Moin Akhtar) sit down comedy (khalid Abbas Dar), movies (Lehri), Singing(Bushra Ansari)

I have just given the names as examples, there are many more names …
And they are the ones who produce top quality humour, and they do it seriously !

Now being fortunate enough, to be able to read and understand more than one language, I noticed that in Pakistan these artists are not ‘comedians’ they are mainsteem artists who do top notch serious work and they are very talented.

Comming back to the topic of this thread, I confess that I always thought that very few women are naturaly funny in the world. I stll stand by my perception but On GS I am pleasently suprised that my perception is shattered by a young lady, Her name is Irem.

Yes, Irem is the most naturaly funny girl on internet. She is the best story teller I have seen on internet. Her stories are classics. They are funny, intiguing, full of suspence/ shock and lots and lots of controversy. and best of all there are hundreds of them. She never tries to be funny, its natural and top quality stuff… that is the rare trait in females.

For me the runners up is Mr. Lajawab, he is artistic and creatively funny.

And the third position goes to Disco Duck. She is also a naturaly funny gal. and her stories used to be interesting and spontaneous :k:

Please share your favorite comedians on GS. and For God don’t start "I miss her/him :teary3: crap " over again :halo:

ps. I can compile my top ten list here, but this has already gone too long

I havent really had the pleasure of reading much of Irems works...
but lots of people have mentioned that she's a great writer....

Ok back to the topic :

Like i mentioned earlier that comedy is a serious business. I would like to compare with examples of Tragic comedy from eastern and western productions houses.

three recent movies fall in the same category

  1. Birthday Girl
  2. Bandits
  3. One night at McCools

Now all of them fall under the same genre.They are good movies but in my view non of them is STRONG enough to be called as tragic comedy …

Now under the same catagory I present an urdu drama named “Half Plate”. Written by Anwar Maqsood. And brilliantly performed by Moin Akhtar, Khailda Riasat and Jamshed Ansaari. The play is a classic comedy, and it will get you rolling on the floor with laughter, but the message, the essence is so deep and tragic that it will bring tears in the eyes.

I have not seen such a classic piece of artistic tragic comedy in english language.

Any comments ?

At # 4 on my list is **Gamma Dilation **(yes the same guy in post # 10)

This is a guy with very good sense of original twisted humor. His work is exceptional at time and at other times just plain nasty. But GS archives is full of his work. And he is unique :k:

yes.. I agree with you Gamma is amongst one of the funniest

I have to say the Funguy and Roman can be rather witty too
as can Lussi especially in Life1(do a search)

and if I may be so bold

Verizon and Pinstripe Danda... were by far the funniest

girls include Catlady... , AishaA, femme and Minah_pa

and as for the "not known" category

the funniest in that category goes to Dope
