**India target Pakistan after taming Lanka **
AHMEDABAD: India batsman Virender Sehwag on Thursday sounded a warning to Pakistan, saying his team were well-prepared to win the second successive Test series there on their upcoming tour.
“If they give us bouncy and seaming tracks they will struggle against our attack because their batsmen are not technically sound,” Sehwag said after leading the hosts to victory in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka here. India won the match by 259 runs to clinch the series 2-0 against Marvan Atapattu’s Sri Lankans. India now tour Pakistan next month for three Tests and five one-day internationals, the third series between the arch-rivals in two years.
India defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the Test series and 3-2 in one-dayers on their last tour in 2004. Pakistan returned the compliment with a 4-2 one-day win in India earlier this year after forcing the hosts to a 1-1 draw in the Test series. “They (Pakistan) gave us flat tracks last time and we won both the Test and one-day series there,” said Sehwag. “If pitches there support fast bowlers we will play three seamers, and if they don’t we will include two spinners and two pacemen. It all depends on the conditions,” he said. Sehwag said India had the batsmen to cope with the Pakistani attack, which did well against Ashes-winning England in the recent home series.
“We are trying to build good partnerships and are confident of handling the Pakistani bowlers who did well against England at home,” he said. England lost both the Test (2-1) and one-day series (3-2) on their tour of Pakistan which ended on Wednesday. “We have worked hard on our game and it shows in the results,” said Sehwag, who became the first Indian to smash a Test triple-century in the opening match against Pakistan at Multan last year. afp
Guys, Indians have challenge in the field of bowling. Though with Shabbir gone, the bowling of Pakistan stops at Shoaib Akhtar for worries part. Though my take this batting like up of Indians isn't as good as it was last time. Sachin is still scratchy, Shewag is not scoring any big runs, Gambhir is new. It leaves Rahul and Yuvraj to manage the top order. I am not sure Indian lower order will do good against Shoaib. Dhoni is always a Yes or No like Shahid Afridi, can't build team around these guys.
Pakistan has clear challenge in one man army Inzi with some dangerous players on given day.
Fankly I feel both teams will be grappling with gaps in batting and bowing departments. Whoever manages it better will win.
Laxman yes, that way I left Kaify, Pathan and Wasim Jaffer as well. These aren't guys on which other team loses sleep.
Like Sami and Rana Naved are good, though would you lose sleep over them, I dobut.
My take, there are players in both teams. These players are good enough to be in teams, so they are good enough to create problem on given day. Though are they the one’s on which opposition will lose sleep.
That way in Indian batting, there are enough names who have done great feet in past and done well in past 2 series.
That way, Indian bowling has Harbhanjan, Kumble (just look at record), with Pathan. R.P Singh and Nath will be new to Pakistan _ he has done well against both SL and SA.
Earlier you had Wasim Akram, Waquar Younis and Saqlain (at his best) were all three were cause of pain due to skill and consistency of performance.
It will be a hard fought and close series. I don't think any team has any clear overall advantage. Let's hope we have some really good and nail biting cricket.
I think Pakistan hold an advantage as they just defeated England (that England which defeated Aus) and also they defeated India in India.
India if they are complacent on the basis of ODI and test series win over Sri Lanka(not upto mark) then they would have a rude awakening in Pakistan..
Typical pre series mind games.
But sehwag talking about technique???
Sehwag bhai kee short term memory 2004 series tuk hee limited hay. Some one should tell him about the other beatings which his team has received from Pakistan.
I wanted to say that there will be no clear favourite. But than I thought, why the f**k.
Pakistan will thrash india big time in this series:dhimpak:
Aejaz bhai aaram say sotay rahein aap. After all there will be plenty of sleepless nights coming in future for you and all other indian friends:hehe:
Both teams have deficiencies in both departments, so as mentioned earlier the series will be hard fought and who ever keeps the nerves will take the cup!
