Long-hair

Girls with long hair, how do you maintain your zulfein? Help Gina out please.. if I tie them in a chignon/bun it weighs down and hurts my neck/head. I don’t like leaving them down, they get in the way.. I’m always in a hurry and can’t braid them myself either.

…don’t ask me to cut them! :emmy:

Re: Long-hair

Maybe use a clip? One of those jaw-like thingys?

Re: Long-hair

Most of the time my hairs in a messy bun something like this:

mayb try pins to take some of the weight off?

Also If u hair gets in ur way when there down then use Alice bands or crocodile clips

Re: Long-hair

Is it just me but those bands ^ Give me a headache and make my head throb. I can only wear them for about 3hours.
Because my hairs curly i'll have it in a messy bun and back comb it etc so it has loads of voume at the front. When its straight i just flip the front bits back. I dunno my hair doesnt get in my way i LOVE it so it doesnt annoy me. Its nice n long now!

Re: Long-hair

those bans never stay in my hair. I do the same hairstyle but instead of those bands I prefer to use Alice bands or the ones with the big flowers (those r cute). I have quite a thick fringe atm and unless its styled properly it looks horrible so most days I use Alice bands.

Re: Long-hair

When i had really really really long hair, i couldn't really bun/chignon it cos it just looked daft, so i used to do a loose-ish french plait. It looks neat, keeps your hair off your face and cos it's not tight, it doesn't give you a headache. :D

Re: Long-hair

Ooh, just remembered this really pretty hairdo… the fishtail braid! I haven’t tried it myself because I’m a lazy bum, but it looks really nice. It takes some time though, so you might want to try it out when you don’t have anything else to do… Here’s a link:

Lipstick Masala Blog Archive The Return of the Braid: How to Fishtail like the Celebrities

Also a ponytail is dead boring, but it’s an option…

My hair is pretty long, like I said..if it's a bun/chignon it weighs down and REALLY hurts my neck/head. Those claws if they're plastic they break and if they're metal I need 2. A ponytaill never stays in place and my pony collapses in 5 mins! :(

I've been braiding it lately with different hair-accessories, but i'm tired of braids too!

Re: Long-hair

^ Omg, THICK hair!! Well in that case im guessing your only option is to either get it razor cut so you get nice blended in layers. Or get it thinned out.

once i was super bored on a flight and the fishtail braid was in the cosmo magazine i picked up. so i got to braiding it actually looked really cute and a lot of women complimented me and told me they used to do that when they were younger. they asked if it’s back and i was like well braids are always in during the summer…

anyhow i leave mine out or use a chopstick/pen/pencil to put it up and it kinda fountains over the top… it works. I also get a headache when my hair is tied up for too long and prefer to leave mine out. however when i cook i have to tie my hair up, wouldn’t want that going anywhere much less catching fire.

below is a picture of how mine kinda turns out (i make a low pony at the nape of my neck…twist it up and use a pencil to secure it and the top fountains over) i circled the part where the pen i used shows.

Re: Long-hair

Yep best thing to do is to get ur hair thinned out by putting layers in to them.

Re: Long-hair

tell me about it gina!
I've been scouring youtube and long hair forums for a while now ... for solutions/ideas ...
not much luck i'm afraid ... its either put it up or braid it or combine the two.
i'm stuck with ugly headache inducing buns so far ... as braids make me look about 10yo and leaving it down is unprofessional and annoying.

I've had better luck with the long/alligator clips then the regular claw clips in making a more balanced chignon = less strain on neck

Re: Long-hair

I've given up and just leave it down now, all the time. Tying it up makes my head hurt like crazy.

Re: Long-hair

I have long hair too and the pic that ColourfulEyes posted is how I have my hair most days as I’m lazy with keeping it straightened etc. My hair is naturally very curly/wavy as if I’ve had it up in rollers, so I also often tie it into a high ponytail like this >> http://fashionfeen.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/jessica-simpson-ponytail.jpg Its quick and easy and looks great!
Another favourite of mine is to have my hair half up half down, I usually take half the hair and just pin it back leaving some volume at the top >> http://www.wedding-hairstyles.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/wedding-hair-half-up-02.jpg

Ya same thing happens to me, alice bands give me headaches. I always thought it was because my head was too big :cb:

Re: Long-hair

i have same problem, really thick hair. so i just stick to having it braided in various styles.. want to have layers and all so they get thinner, but mom wont let me :sigh:

Re: Long-hair

^Lol. If you go somewhere good, they can put in layers/thin it out in a way your mum won't even notice.

My sister has thick, straight hair and it looks best when the back appears one length without visible layering.. but that doesn't mean that it hasn't been thinned out a lot at the ends :p

Re: Long-hair

I don't know if this is a common thing - but my cousin used to have very thick hair and she decided to have it layered and thinned out as she thought it would look better when straightened - she says her hair hasn't been the same thickness since she had it thinned out and that was years ago.

Re: Long-hair

^doesn't make sense unless she had more hairloss in the last few years or the thinning/layering was done starting closer to the head and she has very long hair.

Re: Long-hair

Yep, she had all her hair thinned out - I remember thinking at the time how silly she was to do it to such an extreme!
