i ever so paindu-idly spread out a blanky and put midget’s pillow on teh floor infront of me… its like it send off a silent alarm and a member of teh crew came and told me off… that was embarassing too

All I can suggest is to bring a pillow and small blanket that you can throw on the cabin floor by your feet – sounds rather nasty but it works.
I’ve never tried this but I have seen several moms put their sleeping babies down there surrounded by cushy diaper bags etc. once the plane reaches cruising altitude. Keep in mind that you will have to be quick about lifting them back into your lap should the “fasten seat belt” sign come on during the flight. Inconvenient yes, but might be your best option if all else fails.
