Re: Long flights and kid in lap

my son was 18months old when i took him to pakistan with me. we took a direct flight so its was about 13hours.. on our way there the plane wasn’t as full and we got an extra seat and he just slept his way there.. however coming back from pakistan was exhausting since the plane was packed and i was expecting and couldnt have him in my lap for long (nauseas).. but someone had to hold him .. so my husband had him in his lap for the entire plane ride but he was asleep for most the time..
if the baby is small they have those mini cribs in some planes but my son was too old for them .
we wanted an extra seat aswell but they didnt give it to us since he was under 2.. :bummer:

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

ab nahi kernay de thay zalim crew log :(

i ever so paindu-idly spread out a blanky and put midget's pillow on teh floor infront of me... its like it send off a silent alarm and a member of teh crew came and told me off... that was embarassing too :(

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

^ oh really?
I had no idea.....I can see how they might consider it a safety hazard.......but heck......if there is turbulence and people are still in the bathrooms and they have enough time to get back to their seats and buckle up then why don't we have enough time to grab our kids off the floor?

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

I am so scared to fly with my 22 months old that I have not yet taken the holiday trip to a country with my family :( I just want to wait till she gets a little older.

On my recent foreign trip , the flight to Karachi was filled with children I could hear cries from everywhere :( parents pareshaan bachay pareshaan.

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

Usually international flights have bassinet kind of thing and they give you front seats. Before you go on a long flight ask them about bassinet and good front seats if you want to save money.

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

these days bulk head seats with bassinets are sold at an extra price by some select airlines...some airlines charge as much as $80 a each segment of the flight.

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

Child's height and weight matter. No way a 14 month old is fitting in there. What khabees airlines are these that charge more for a bassinet?!!! I travelled quite a bit with a kid that required a bassinet and thankfully none of the airlines pulled this trick...phew

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

LOL......yep. :) I travelled overseas for vacation this past February....going there was on Emirates and return flight on Continental. I noticed this happening going both ways. People put kids on the floor and the filght crew asked them to pick the kids up as soon as they noticed it. They cite it as "safety hazard"....in our lawsuit friendly society....they're not taking any chances.

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

Oh yeah you are right child's weight matter most, I forgot its been a long time since I have traveled with a baby.

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

Done that many times. There is really no option so just understand that you will have to tolerate it. After the journey, get a massage.

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

I was thinking of getting a massage before getting on that plane, I guess it doesn't hurt to have 2 massages in 28 hours... :D

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

Absolutely :D

Re: Long flights and kid in lap

I travelled from toronto to amsterdam on KLM . my son was almost 18 months old at that time. They gave us the front seats with bassinet but ofcourse he was too big for the bassinet. Once he was asleep me and my husband started juggling him between each other to ease tired arms. One of the staff herself suggested that she can put some extra blankets on the floor infront of our seats and we can put the baby down for a nap. it was a bit carmped for my hubbys long legs but otherwise it was the most comfy flight i have ever had. I travel quite alot and the worst service i have ever seen is by our very own PIA. bad food, cramped seats rude staff and what on and on top of all that if a kid starts crying other passengers start blaming the mom as if mom is delibrately provoking the kid to cry.
