Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

Hi folks,

Can a girl really picks a big fight over fact that her out of country fiance didnt send her any gift on valentines day? Is it a big deal for girls? I personally dont agree with the idea of valentines day ( just a new drama which got v popular in previous years OR i think every day is valentines day why we need to label one day OR blah blah blah, many random thoughts ) but i sensed my fiancee is expecting some sort of valentine gift … :s

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

are u the guy trying not to piss off the gf.........or the girl asking whether to be pissed off or not??

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

v are muslims.v dont celebrate valentine day.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

Who cares if anyone finds it odd or not, she doesn't. So if she expects one, you need to provide her with one. No questions asked.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

Of course you should send a gift. I'm in a similar situation for the time being due to studies and I don't expect a gift but he just started sending it on his own and he's quite elaborate with it, plans it with his best friend and my best friend and all that jazz. I pressed and framed the first ever roses he sent >.<. Since there are other issues that come into play, like my family, he cannot go all out and do uber-Valentine's Day type things so in order to be discreet about our gifts he will order something I know I'll love (like makeup) and have it delivered to my house. My parents don't get suspicious and it works out well.

At the end of the day, it's not that serious. I didn't even think about V-day gifts because of the LDR-esque situation but he initiated it on his own and the thought is always appreciated.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

hey I just got this text msg regarding celebrating valentine day:

Roses are red
Voilets are blue
Celebrating Velentine is what non muslims do..
Shaytaan is present between the intimate two
So muslims remember, it is haram for you...

Found it funny and useful at the same time, so felt I should share it with u guys..

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

If you think everyday is Valentine's day, then do you make her feel extra special everyday? Send her a dozen red roses and boxes of cholcolate and greeting cards or just do something out of the ordinary for her everyday?

I doubt it.

Send her a damn present!

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

Why Do we Need ONE specific day to express love & exchange gifts?

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

^ tu roz roz kar lia karo. Kisi ne mana tu nahin kia.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

If you don't celebrate valentines day and you suspect she is expecting a gift you should talk about it with her. If she knew your reason for not sending is gift is because you don't celebrate/believe in valentines day then she wouldn't feel you don't care.

^ Iday kolo puch lo … inuu bohta pata ha :barbie:

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

I understand why you say this BUT

It makes no sense. People don't take the time out of their busy and hectic lives to express their LOWE and passion for each other these days...at least most don't.

V-day doesn't have to be about presents at all...it can be about two people making sure to connect and have some alone time. Do something fun and romantic. What is so harmful about that? Or haram for that matter? Why do stupid things like VDay get sooo much unnecessary drama but bigger issues in our culture get ignored?

If two people do something nice on VDay - its a GOOD thing. It means they're closer, had fun, were able to talk, etc etc etc.

Jalkukray log saray ke saray.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

yeah you can pick a fight over anything in this age of hysterical fits over insignificant things.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

give her something this time ....but explain your idea of valentine for the future.

besides, these days you can get cheap heart shape chocolate everywhere which you wouldnt normally so why dont make it special since she is going crazy over it. but for the future, its good to discuss your take on life and stuff.

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

Why not? what is the harm in making her feel special on a day where most of the other girls might be treated by something or the other too by their bfs/fiance or husbands what ever but you dont want her to compare lol that is calling for trouble :-p

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

Ummm... thanx every one... though i dont want to be one labelled as who "Celebrated Valentines day" .. Still i think sending flowers and chocolates is a good idea. Just wanted to see what majority of girls would say :-)

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine’s day

you will have to ‘‘pay’’ … either in money or otherwise…your choice :chai:

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine’s day

There’s nothing wrong w/ Valentine’s Day. It’s just a silly Hallmark holiday-esque kind of day. But yes, flowers and chocolates sound great! :k:

Re: Long distance engagement and Valentine's day

send him a text message in the morning like

roses are red
my fiancee is the best

or

inkee, pinky, ponkee
tumharey siwa sub donkey

or leaving him alone for the day might be a good gift too?
