Re: London - riots
London riots 2011
Affray! Affray! What becomes of our youth today?
Come summer days, the bored lapsed video gamers
And government budgets reacting to austerity measures
School is out and the plug of community funds are pulled
The elite are away holiday making, but are the rest fooled?
Monetary disparity widens between the classes
Mobsters ride the wake of the crazed youth masses
A lesson from Huxley can be learnt for now
Bring on the Soma to quell the row
Entertain them so their energies vent
Keep them safe from the criminally bent
The excuse for BBM to stay live for the sake of liberty
What liberty? As if the riots are motivated politically
Hogwash … They are kids so confiscate their ability
To disseminate their wanton misdeeds
By bringing curfew to the texting sprees
After dusk till dawn no message flown should land
Teenagers on the streets be band
Forget not how this all started, the youth who was shot dead
Let not opportunists hijack this time, justice for him is still needed
Reading all these stories is sad, Is anyone thinking, what i'm thinking? I thought all the devils were locked up during Ramadan? :-(

Really? We had 13 years of Labour and look where it got us. The Cons-Dem coalition or demolition as some call it need to realise they cannot cut the number of police officers.
Re: London - riots
"call me Dave" is back in country and presiding over COBRA meeting at this very moment. Expect to see water canons in action this evening. I don't think he will approve army deployment as it will be a major political blow for coalition government. MET police is already over stretched and have thrown everything they had in the "box". There were 5000+ personnels on streets last night, including community officers in riot gear, and they could not protect properties. These looters are simply tiring them out. Their tactic so far is - keep the riot Police engaged all day with minor skirmishes and once they are tired and deployed in "troubled" areas, strike and start "fun" in least protected areas. MET Police have limited resources and manpower - there can't be major police presence in all commercial areas and counties around it. They can not call for "reinforcement" from neighbouring counties as it will leave those areas vulnerable. (sorry for some reason this new GS editor is not recognising "return" key. Hence one long paragraph.)
Re: London - riots
Labour didnt get us where we are ... The coalition did ... God forbid if we ever have to face the economic crisis again , this government has clearly shown they are incapable of handling that .. the crisis has led to several social community breakdowns ... and the Riots are the result ...
As Labour said it earlier the government is trying to do too much too soon ! now face the ultimate reality ...

And what 1 year of ConDem'ed government brought us? 0.2% growth rate and 8-9% cuts in most deprived councils in country, compared to 3-4% cuts in "well-off" councils?

Thanks for that Xeno ... The MET police dont have enough tools to deal with the trouble ... The max they are doing is dispersing the crowd , they arent even using rubber bullets ... Army is very much needed before this gets out of control ..
In liverpool it was a mix of whites and blacks , but mostly whites .. and they were literally throwing people out of the cars and burning the vehicles ... the police couldnt do much , they are trying to arrest as many people as they can .. but will that help? I dont think so ...
Re: London - riots
Police needs start shooting them in the legs.
Re: London - riots
Apparently BBC are saying it's predominantly black youths. However I am not there, so I cannot comment! Nor do I want to be!
Started in south and north London, now moved Harrow and Birmingham, with rumours of it spreading north. Keep safe people. Should bring out army and shoot at will if you ask me.
It was predominantly black youths and by looks of the media coverage there are some Middle Eastern and Desi looking people in there. The areas where the riots were at the start and some of the new areas where the riots have started have sizeable black populations. There may be a correlation. Although you cannot state that it could be predominantly black people rioting because that is racist and politically incorrect.
There seems to be less white people in there. It could be because of media coverage but sadly I think it is just mainly non-white people. The right wingers are saying this is what happens when you let so many blacks/immigrants in your country.
Call in the army and set up a curfew - detain and charge anyone in groups hanging around unnecessarily , ban BBM - who cares about civil liberties in times such as this.
Most of these poor people already have these large TV's - if you ever went to the houses of quite a few non-working people you would assume they were company directors by the gadgets in the house.
Re: London - riots
^^ CB it's clear to anyone following this over past 3 days that these looters are not from any particular ethnicity - as DC would say "they all in this together". Even if they "arrest" these people and present them in court, they will be out on street the next day for - a) there is no room in jails. b) there are others to take their place as school is out, and they need some activity for "fun". I doubt that polive will use rubber bullets - they are already under microscope for their action during G20 demonstrations.
Re: London - riots
True Xeno ... I think Himalaya said it right, we need a curfew in place until things are sorted out ...

The police have no powers. If they hurt a criminal whilst being arrested they will be in trouble for breaches of human rights. If people will be charged and sentenced then the sentences will be too soft. Although, many rioters in the Bradford, Burnley and Oldham riots got fairly hefty sentences.
Jail is cushy. Criminals should be forced to do national service so they learn some discipline and responsibility. They will also be taught what real men are.
The government will be blamed because of the cuts but they have not even kicked in most areas.
*Some people are taking the side of the rioters by saying that the government is to blame as there are no jobs and no leisure opportunities for these rioters but I ask if there are no jobs then how can so many of these rioters use BBM? (I have no real idea what that is so excuse my ignorance but i assume it is to do with a Blackberry and you need money to afford that). *
Re: London - riots
^But it soon became clear that BBM was by far the most popular means for rioters to communicate. BlackBerry devices, cheaper and more widespread than iOS or Android smartphones, are owned by more than a third of British teens, according to a recent study.

In the head will do just fine.
Re: London - riots
Its been made clear by the officials that Army will NOT be brought in since its not a military situation yet ...
Re: London - riots
lol sigh, i'm gonna say it again.. nobody is justifying their behaviour. nobody is taking the rioters side. i think the police have failed yet again, they've lost control from the get go when all this started in tottenham, how could they possibly keep up with all areas when they couldn't even stick to one? i know a couple areas where my friends are who didn't see a fire engine OR police until very very very late into the night, actually even early morning.
now the separate argument about deprived folks using BBs and whatnot. deprivation comes in all forms, not just money. deprived areas, deprived of education, deprived of excelling.
ANYWAY, seeing as that is a whole different argument that would require a new thread lets move on.. the prime ministers statement has been moved to 11? he needs to hurry up.
