Local names of professions?

Re: Local names of professions?

sure bro…good luck! :wink:

Re: Local names of professions?

nope…yes…sounds like arabic ward kasab. it’s amusing how the words/phrases from English, French, Hindi, Arabic and Faarsii are coined into the local zabaan.

some examples in my poorbii zabaan:

ra’us = ravish
tahaddar = teh-dar-teh
kheesa = keesa = jeb
singal = signal
paasii = posse’ [French]

etc

Re: Local names of professions?

kheesa is also common in Sindhi for jeb… kheesa khali, muRs mawali (muRs= banda) :hehe:

BTW jeb is Persian? Jeb tarash became jeb katra in Urdu.. Is there any other local word for this profession?

Re: Local names of professions?

wow…amazing co-incidence. :slight_smile:

jeb katraa hii maiN ne bhii sunaa hai…paakiT maar bhii hotaa hai…:cb:

jeb is an Arabic word as far as i know.

btw, jeb katraa meN lafz katraa is from the Faarsii root word “katardan” = katarnaa

Re: Local names of professions?

what is Hindi word for katarna?

Re: Local names of professions?

Is dallal local name? or came from Persian?

Re: Local names of professions?

it’s strange that katarnaa is also used in Hindi..it’s a Hindi word as well. ham log katarnaa hii bolte haiN jisse aur bhii alfaaz bane haiN Hindi ke qaa’ide se jaise katran [end pieces of fabric roll], katar katar = cut-pieces of fabrics…etc

dalaal/dallaalah** Arbii **kaa lafz hai.

btw, local zabaan meN aur Hindi meN dallaal ko **aaRhtii / aaRhatiyaa kahte haiN! :slight_smile:

dallaal ho saktaa hai daleel se hii yeh lafz banaa ho…

ek lafz aur bhii hai jo Hindustani hai aur sounds like daleel…the word is:

dalel [da-lay-l] = begaarii, ragetnaa, kam ujrat ke 'evaz kaam karvaanaa

army waaloN kii subHo subHo afsaraan ‘DALEL’ karvaa dete haiN

dalel = drill
