Re: Local names of professions?

WHAT does it mean for a word to have HINDI ORIGIN?
That is the point.

There is no such thing as any word having a HINDI origin in Urdu. Because both languages were ONE language. Therefore the origin of the words you call of 'Hindi' origin are actually the words **common **to both Hindi and Urdu. This is why their origin is common too.

It is a BIG mistake made by Urdu dictionaries when they call a word having a 'Hindi' origin. They don't realize that in this way they relegate Urdu to the status of a new language and make Hindi the original true language of this land.

What you call 'Hindustani' is a word given by ENGLISH to that one common language which I have been so desperately trying to explain.
So in order to make it easier, let's say that words like 'laaj' or 'lahoo' are of HINDUSTANI origin, instead of Hindi origin.

Re: Local names of professions?

yes...nautch a Hindi word made to sound like English word like cummerband=kamarband **and **charisma=karishma. :)

Re: Local names of professions?

ok, as you say...thank you! :)

Re: Local names of professions?

What is the reason that we don’t have popular names (from Arabic / Persian) for lakaRhara and BuRah’ee? Seems that people in Persia and Arab were not into these professions. :hmmm:

Re: Local names of professions?

No. I want your opinion. I am not just arguing for the sake of argument. I am just interested. :)

But I might be ruining this thread with this off topic discussion. So ok. Bye.

Re: Local names of professions?

sure. Its an interesting topic for discussion. Can we have a separate thread for that.

Re: Local names of professions?

Well I can not guarantee participation in that thread. It all depends on the mood and time. :)
May be some other time.

Re: Local names of professions?

Have you heard word 'kasbi' for tawaif.. Kasbi seems to be from Arabic Kasab.
