Re: Loaded Topic...

Fortune favours the bold!

What may seem like luck to some now was also the fact of England under pressure! It would be quite a giddy and tendentious act to say Imran's 'Corned Tiger' speech and prop had no effect on English team whatsoever. Those remarks are perhaps one of all time great examples explaining the phenomena of claiming psychological edge against your opposition in sports. It was not luck when each and every player of Team Pakistan went into the match with the thumping intent of winning. When you put undue emphasis on the word luck, you are essentially trivialising all the efforts, preparation, passion and remarkable sense of self belief Pakistani players invested in that match.

I'm sorry, I'm just not believer of the concept of 'luck'. You make the most of the opportunities that come your way and mistakes others make.

Bad decisions and dropped catches is pass the parcel of cricket. I'm pretty sure teams have made sillier mistakes in all those matches where Australia was crowned the World Champions.

Re: Loaded Topic...

Quite agree, however if there was luck factor in that tournament it was during the earlier round match with England when Pakistan were 84 all out and would have been knocked out of the tournament had rain not saved them. Also if Pakistan was lucky in the final it should be remembered that England could not achieve a total which should have been in their grasp and that was due to some superb bowling by Pakistan despite Imran's and Waqar's injury.

Re: Loaded Topic...

have to agree with you on this one Jolie.....cannot believe I am agreeing with this girl on something!!!

but that goes back to the same point that I am trying to make for last 31 hours 42 min and 30 seconds that fine, we know we have a weak batting and we know we crunch under pressure but can we do something abt it..

and yes there is no one easy quick solution but one factor that I see terribly missing in Pak cricket recently is presence of some kind of mature thought leadership in the dressing room....in WC 92, IK/Javed Miandad presence made a huge difference.....even if IK was half dead, his presence alone was a boost for the team in that WC

ganguly with dravid and laxman turned it around..Fleming with C. carins and one other guy did really well for NZ..Naser Hussain with Alex Stewart and Michael Vaughan is a brilliant example...Arjuna with Arvinda and Gru Sinha is another brillinat brilliant example
and in all these teams flashy super-stars were some other players but the core quartet made the strategic difference

And after inzi , we are lacking that aspect...and now it is a complete disaster abd after misbah..you guys will see the impact. Talent alone will do nothing...keep kicking these old players (s0me shd be kicked)and keep bringing the new players but you are missing the leadership big time..we did a horrible job in transitioning in last 5 years...

Re: Loaded Topic...

Actually it was 74 all out v England

We (luckily) gained a point there but people forget that we also lost 2 points against South Africa because of the same rain rule. Pak were cruising with IK and Inzi at the crease (2/135 chasing 212 for victory) but rain intervened and the RRR suddenly jumped from a very manageable under 6 RPO to almost 9 RPO after revision

I used the word luck keeping in mind what was to come in batting after Miandad and Imran. Saleem Malik was a walking wicket in that tournament, Inzi was a newbie and at 40 odd for 4 (with both Miandad and IK gone) it would have been curtains...

It was only because of the wonderful rescue job by Imran and Miandad, albeit with some luck, that Inzi and Wasim were able to play their natural game and they literally had licence to go after the English bowling in those last 4 or 5 overs and score some quick runs which gave the total some respectability.

249 was still very gettable but it gave our bowlers something to defend.

Re: Loaded Topic...

Fantastique. We just need to turn this good deed into a die hard habit now. :D

I feel we are not producing great cricketing minds is largely because of the fact we are not producing players who love and enjoy cricket in the true sense of the word! Yes, this is right, at the end of the day, this is all about cricket, yet one fails see the passion, respect and dedication to the game that was a defining factor behind shaping the careers of many great players of the past. Forget about the team, it's like these players can't even be bothered to express themselves as individuals. The confidence, the self belief and even the selfish desire to play for the sake of protecting personal reputation is missing. The likes of Malik, Kamran Akmal etc are a perfect example of this.

It's only when these players will genuinely and wholeheartedly love and respect the great game of cricket, only then they'll develop an interest to learn more about the game. They'll learn to pay attention to details, learn about how things work, what are the rules, how and when those rules work. And when you learn about the rules, it becomes easier to break them, to shape them, to twist them, to turn them to suit your aims and goals. You know, we need confident, inquisitive, adventurous minds in the squad. We need players who genuinely love, love, love playing cricket, the way likes of Ponting & Co did. Tragically, Pakistani players visibly look and act so uninspired, they're so bloody boring (and short) that I cannot bring myself to develop a crush on any of those fellas. What a shame, innit?

Re: Loaded Topic…

Mental weakness..

They need a coach like him

Re: Loaded Topic…

Firstly - Educated Vs Non-Educated
Now - Urban Vs Rural
After this - Urban (Posh Area - DHA, Model Town, Gulberg etc) VS Urban (Middle Class Areas - Gawalmandi, Anarkali, etc)
and life goes on :smack2:
