For those of you who live in a western country, do you like it?
The reason I am asking is because I have met many south asians who lived here (im in Canada) but who complain about EVERYTHING. (usually older generations though).I understand you might not like some things, but to complain about everything?? Examples: girls here are so “loose”, look at what they wear, the weather sucks, people here drink, I dont like western values, people are not religious enough, my kids are losing their culture…". My question is, why do they stay here then?
Re: living in the west
Its always hard to adopt new culture / values . The very same people when come back to Pakistan they complain about everything here . Insaan kisi haal ma khush nahi ha .

I've been around the NA and UK, and I can tell that Canada is the most heavenly place I've been to...(Living in Canada) Those who whine about everything should answer one question...And you should ask them when they come whining at you.
"why the hell are you living here if you hate it soo much?"
They should know that Canada is a mixed culture, and there is no ristriction if you wish to teach your own kids your culture.

I used to ask tht qs to my classmates in high school when they used to whine abt KSA and theywould say cuz aur parents r here ![]()
Re: living in the west
I am a first generation emmigrant.
Like many before me i came here (UK) to gain an education and to find better work suitable to my skills, having come here i wish i had not.
Back home you could say i grew up in a culture and society that would have been fammiliar to the likes of my forebearers froma millenia ago.
My village see's only two busses a day one at morning and one at night.
In the west i learn that there are differences, but also that many things are unchanged.
But i in my heart of hearts have come to reject the west, and like Allama Iqbal it's time for me to re-start and revive my people.
I came as first genration immagrant. I am now first genration seperatist.
So true Nina, the older generation does love to complain.. tho tbh I think they'd be moaning if they were back in Pakistan as well..
And I get so sick of the obsession with 'girls don't turn out well in the west' whilst their brothers are getting up to so much more.. it's like the parents have some sort of mental block when it comes to boys.. but that's another topic :D
I love living in the UK, wouldn't move anywhere else :)
Not only do they stay, they’ll try and bring over their family from ‘back home’ as well ![]()
Re: living in the west
I was born and raised in the US, and I love it here.
not sure why some immigrants expect utopia, no place is perfect and you have to like a place overall as a sum total of its pluses and minuses, and if that is not good enough, go somewhere else rather than be somewhere and be bitter. Its not that u drink the koolaid and not voice any displeasure, or try to change things but have some loyalty.and grew u
I was born in UK and grew up there and KSA, then Pakistan and then came to US by my choice for education but because i was always fascinated by the place. I made a decision to stay here and love the place. is not perfect, but no place is.
Re: living in the west
^ I see you have a good point. ![]()
Nowhere is perfect except when you make it so…
Re: living in the west
but then perfection is only up to god isnt it?
one should strive to make everything better, themselves, their family, neighbourhood, community, nation..but understand that their preferences may be different than others in their family, neighbourhood, community, nation etc..and even what the consider as good for themselves may be different than what ppl close to them expect.
Re: living in the west
X2 when were you in KSA ![]()

Thats ture also which is why i am not perfect... and never will be.
But nor will i want to be perfect only as close as possible to perfection as humanly possible... it's the effort that counts.
Also God layed down the principles to perfection. Where i come from the work of God is much more visible.....
