Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

Talat Hussain was supporting mullahtic loonies (who had kidnapped policement and taken women and children hostage) during the Isloo incident few weeks ago. He was the mouth piece for the mullahtic loonies holed up inside and was undercutting state's effort to make the loonies surrender. This guy is a moron who's abusing the freedom of press.

Traitor!

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

Great! That still does not absolve The Emperor for giving such a stupid interview. Even one of his Corp. Commanders let him know that much.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

Based on whose opinion? Talat Hussain is a mullahtic loony apologist and his fans (read: other mullahtic loony apologists ) are doing bhangRa because he asked Musharraf some idiotic questions.

We'll talk when there is something substantial by a real journalist so wait till you "hit rock bottom" again. Now, don't get all burned up, these are your choice words you used in another thread.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

opnion or substantiated fact?

oh Mush is on his way out..not my guy. So I ain’t all that worried. Just look at the Amreekans using him as the scape goat for their adventures in Iraq. Who woulda thunk. tch tch. Judicial adventurism has come to bite Mush in the ass in more ways than he would’ve imagined…or Kiyani bothered to tell him. Now instead of local politicians screwing the cork against him, it’s his “friend” in the White House doing the deed. Bravo.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

musharraf may be on his way out but military is not and will not be, so nothign really changes there. militancy that is a problem continues and whoever his successor is will have to deal with it.

I had said already that he will nto be in the present role by next spring,he could be around but in a diff role..even if the title of president is still there.

the pressure that he is under would be the same pressure that his successors will be under. and it would be interesting to see how they resolve it.

lets see

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

Theoretically speaking, a democratically elected leader can easily disperse the pressure by hiding behind cabinet or Parliament.

Re: Live with Talat

if that were so, Pak support would have finished when BB govt finished.

They have always been a Pak Army project, no matter who was PM at the tim

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

..and that solves problems?
how would that solve anything with militants activities in the tribal areas and when US is increasing pressure on Pakistani govt.

would hiding behidn cabinet or parliament solve the issue at hand then?

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

We should fight the war because it is a problem that affects us as a nation, not because Uncle Sam wants us to, which is exactly what is happening today. This is also why most people wonder in Pakistan today, why are we fighting someone else's war? That is why I said that undue pressure from US can be dissipated easier in a democracy. Just go back to Nawaz Sharif in May '98. Or ZAB for his nuclear program. Dictatorship would never have allowed us to do either of those.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

You mean the Taliban/Al Qaeda and militant Islam is not a problem that effects Pakistan?

Because they are a bigger threat to us than to the Americans.

Nukes were build under Zia's regime.

Nawaz Sharif, the coward, withdrew our troops from Kargil with pressure from Clinton where as when Clinton visited Pakistan in 2000, Musharraf didnt budge from his positions.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

Where did this happen? Even Fox Noise channel couldn't have spun this.

Sources?

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

pakistan has to fight that war, but the issue is that its not just an internal matter when pakistan territory is being used by militants. as long as the nation knows that there will be issues there will be challenges and risks based on tha path that Pakistan takes. if there is a democratic govt in place but there is some attack in US and turns out it was planned and managed from militants hiding in FATA, what do u think US response is going to be, what do you think Pakistan's response to US response is going to be, what will oppositions response be, how many ppl will get out of KFC business, do you cooperate, do you not cooperate, are you ready for sanctions etc etc.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

No. Extremism is a challenge to the Pakistani society but the government does not take it as such. Musharraf is fighting this war out of coercion, not out of conviction. This has resulted in a hap hazard policy against terrorism. One can easily asses the seriousness against terrorism on the govt’s part when this begins to happen:

What good has Shujat ever been in any other situation? He has a 100% failure record. Why is he being chosen to carry out such a critical task?

ZAB initiated the nuclear program. Zia only continued what was already being done in Pakistan.

What position might that be?

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

nation knows the challenges of terrorism but there are no takers for Musharraf regime. Honestly speaking I dont see many social circles in Pakistan where Musharraf is respected. Moreover, on ground, what is his achievement against terrorism in Pakistan? Madressah’s have grown faster under his rule than any previous govt. There are more suicide attacks in Pakistan than before. Granted its an international phenomenon but what has he done to contain that threat? Made deals with known militants such as Naek Mohammad (remember him?) Abdullah Mehsud, Mullah FazlUllah (read this](http://www.dawn.com/2007/07/24/ed.htm#3)) and god knows who else? Suicide bombing has been with us since 2001 and only today has the interior ministry decided to acquire explosive detectors which can help suicide bombers. Amazing.

As for US response, I agree that there was not much choice before Musharraf in 2001 and it would be the same with a democratic dispensation but the way Musharraf and his generals have bent over to accommodate every US wish, that I have an issue with. Did you have a chance to read the account of the meeting between General Mehmood, ISI chief, and Richard Armitage after 9/11?

Does it not strike you as odd that we are fighting perhaps the most critical of wars in Pakistan’s history, and there is never a debate on this issue in the Parliament? Then again, the parliament itself is straitjacketed.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

The reason that Musharraf is fighting the way he is because the Pakistani Army is not designed for this kind of warfare. Second, the only way that Musharraf can continue this fight if he gets American support in terms of economic and military aid and he is worried and rightly so that Americans might tire and move on like they have done in the past.

Fighting these kinds of wars require a huge amount of Capital which Pakistan does not have.

ZAB initiated the program but it came to its fruition under Zia. Many countries who were on the way of making nukes stopped such as South Africa, Argentina and Brazil. Initiating the program is not the end game of making nukes.

I don't know what it was, but Clinton was highly critical of Musharraf but Musharraf didn't back down and received Clinton coldly. Which shows Musharraf is not a Bush lackey.

He is doing what is best for Pakistan and which is fighting Islamic Extremism.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

I think it was the other way around. Clinton refused to shake hands with Musharraf in public.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)

You are quoting Wolf Blitzer as the US govt. spokesperson. You can do better than that.

Re: Live with Talat: Musharraf interview to Aaj TV (merged)
