That was a really weird title, “lip picking”, but whatever.
So this is kinda embarrassing but I have a really nasty habit of picking at my lips and I do it while test taking, when I’m nervous, when I’m watching t.v., when I’m lost in my own thoughts, when I’m having an intense conversation.
How do I make it stop? I’ve tried to make a conscious effort of not doing it but it doesn’t work.
AND I WAS DOING IT RIGHT NOW TOO:crying:
Make it stop
(oh and I put this in fashion& beauty because it’s making my lips look uglier)
my cousin does the same thing. everyone is constantly pointing it out to her too. she'll stop for one minute and then start again. it's a habit she has, not just when she's stressed or lost in thought.
i used to bite my nails in the same way when i was younger and i only managed to stop because of willpower. i wanted nice nails like my friend.
personally, i'd take some drastic measures for the first few days (to get used to not subconsciously picking), like wearing gloves at home.
^it doesn't work. it's not like you get a 'feeling' that you want to pick your lips. it just happens when you're engrossed in something else.
you would wear gloves because you CAN'T pick your lips if your wearing them. just try it for a week, once your subconscious becomes used to not raising your hand to pick, you will be able to keep an eye on what you're doing.
for nailbiters, there is a product they can apply on their nails that tastes gross and prevents them from putting their hand in their mouth. maybe you can use the same thing if its safe? go to your pharmacist and ask them for suggestions.
U're going to discolor u're lips Aishaaaa! They'll turn dark and ugly and plain horrible looking!
(I hope that was gory enuff to scare u!)
you are so right Gina!
I did this for years... I have stopped now but my lips are very dark now and most of lipsticks just look so horrible or different color then they should be....
Anything to undo this damage? i know its too late now but maybe some can help?
i had the same habit... did it for years.. i'd do it under stress. last year i finally stopped. it takes willpower to get rid of it. chapstick didn't help much... i just got a jar of vaseline and applied it frequently, esp when my lips felt dry. the first week is the hardest, but then when ur lips start to heal and look good, u'll automatically lose the habit of picking at them.
Like stoppit said it's all about willpower..only YOU can stop yourself. People tend to 'pick' on them when they're really dry and chapped..so always wear a lip balm. Other than that make a conscious effort not to pick on them.
