i was gna say tht ur lips r gona go dark but gina's already mentioned it!! i would exfoliate and moisturise regularly so theres nothing to pick! always use vaseline and u'll start liking the feeling of soft and supple lips too much!

My mum does it and had HUGE like doonghs in her lips. they're so uneven and its sooo noticeable when she wears lippy too! will powerrrrr (says the girl who STILL bites her nails. eeek runs)
Like stoppit said it's all about willpower..only YOU can stop yourself. People tend to 'pick' on them when they're really dry and chapped..so always wear a lip balm. Other than that make a conscious effort not to pick on them.

how about developing a new habit that involves picking? like say, picking your nose? :P
jokes apart, how about keeping some lip product (vasaline, olive oil, even lipgloss) on your lips at all times? this way, your lips will always be soft and you'll have nothing to "pick". and if you end up touching your lips, the product on your lips will tell your hands to back off (hopefully)
