Any advisefor my next computer? If linux which particular brand? Keep in mind I want to spend time using the machine, not just messing around and maintaining it. Usage is web browsing, email etc, occasional video, some music, Microsoft Money, Taxcut etc
Re: Linux or Vista?
Go for Ubuntu;you have plenty to mess around with
Disclaimer: its never an easy transition from windows to linux
Re: Linux or Vista?
If you dob’t have the time to mess around for personal desktop use go for windows, for server application go with linux.
Re: Linux or Vista?
He wants tou use MS Money, whey even bother with Linux?
Re: Linux or Vista?
XP hehehe
Re: Linux or Vista?
I’ve heard of XP Home, Pro SP2 but never heard of XP hehehe.. Is this some new version
Re: Linux or Vista?
Yeah stick to windows if u dont want to break your pc. it really isnt easy to install in the first place let alone maintain it.
Re: Linux or Vista?
Not easy? you ever tried installing windows
Re: Linux or Vista?
Windows!
Re: Linux or Vista?
I have been using for some time and I prefer it over XP or Linux. It was very easy to install and found it very easy to maintain. I must say it took me day or two to get used to the new UI but it was not as hard I thougt it was going to be.
Cheers!
Re: Linux or Vista?
if not Windoze or Linux you must be using VxWorks or Solaris right?
Re: Linux or Vista?
definitely windows... if something goes wrong, its usually easier to fix it
Re: Linux or Vista?
Ah .. I see my typo, here’s the edited version;
Re: Linux or Vista?
Vista unstable at this time, wait for SP1
Re: Linux or Vista?
someone pointed out that Ms-Money won't work in anything other than windows. is that true?
Re: Linux or Vista?
VISTA is NOT unstable. I have been using it for some time and have not had any stability issues. I have not seen any issues either on blogs or posts.
Why do you say it is unstable? Can you provide evidence or examples? I would like to test those scenarios.
Re: Linux or Vista?
Lock ups and reboots, apps stop responding etc… something I did not see with XP X64…
Re: Linux or Vista?
^ buy a better PC with 4 GB RAM and it will work like XP X64.
Re: Linux or Vista?
I have quite a few top of the line dual core both Intel and AMD (Vista Ready) at work and one at home…
Re: Linux or Vista?
Ah … I bet its the drivers and not Vista. I have seen some flaky stuff on my 64 bit box early on. After drivers were updated issues went away.
OEM’s concerntrated on 32 bit drivers first and now the 64 bit stuff is slowly trickling in.
