She was quite a stylish lady, I haven’t seen many pictures of her youth, but she has always donned a duppata even wearing 3/4 sleeveless saris.
Just like wearing hats in pre war European culture was sign of nobility and respectability, duppata on head pretty much has a same effect in many traditional old money type families.
Mind you, many Saudi style Wahabis are ready to give fatwas when they see traditional Pakistani way of wearing Duppata and chaddar which doesn’t cover your entire head.
One person’s conservative is other person’s ‘not Islamic enough’. You really can’t please everyone!
