too late…i am fully convinced that we will never be a secular state. we chose to become islamic republic of pakistan and we have now raised generation after generation feeding them a narrative that we got pakistan to live by islamic principles and that if we have to live secularly, then why did we separate from india?
the irony is that no one in pakistan has any idea what exactly is an islamic society and what are those islamic principles (other than namaz, roza, haj, zakat) by which we have to lead our lives but everyone will keep on repeating the same futile narrative that we earned pakistan to live islamically. 90% of our practical lives in pakistan are spent utilizing western technologies, western financial system, western communication system, western juidical system, western democratic system and western bureaucratic system…but yet, we are islamic republic of pakistan hating and demonizing west!
and then zia and mullahs jumped in and tried to define those islamic principles for us which are in no way in alignment with 21st century and therefore created a complete societal chaos but no govt dares challenging them… and hence we have become most hypocritical, morally-cheap and intellectually bankrupt society.
