NB: I rarely measure when I bake so I will tell you andazay se...sorry!
Crush digestive biscuits in a plastic bag with a rolling pin, and add enough melted butter to combine the mixture together. Push down in mini-cupcake tray and bake in a moderate oven for about 5 mins or until set.
Beat cream cheese (e.g. philidelphia) with a spoon until soft. Add caster sugar/icing sugar to taste - maybe 1/4 sugar:cream cheese mixture. Then add a beaten egg or two to the mixture to make it soft, and a couple of drops of vanilla extract. Pour onto the biscuit layer and bake in the oven for about 15 mins until the cheese is springy.
To make the swirls, I just took a quarter of the cream cheese mixture out (BEFORE ADDING THE VANILLA) and mixed a spoonful of raspberry jam into it, then added some red food colour to make it look prettier. Then layer the two cheese mixtures onto your biscuit base - starting with the vanilla, then a teaspoon of the raspberry, and finally a small dollop of the vanilla mixture on top. Then get a skewer and swirl it around to make pretty shapes.
It's so easy and they're a big hit - everyone was asking me the recipe of them after my meeting too!
everything looks reallly good if you can please tell me how much did you bake the chicken bread on. i cant get the temperature right! thanks
I really can't remember - I think around 150-175 C. I cooked for about 20 mins then took it out and put butter on like she says - I didn't do the egg glaze either if that makes any difference.

have invited my khala round for chai tomorrow and need ideas on what to make - am posting in this thread again as it’s a fairly similar thing.
I’m thinking chana chaat, baingan ke pakoray, and for meetha some kind of cake and something else
So, any meetha ideas? And any more namkeen ideas (I don’t have any meat in there but can’t decide what to do)
p.s. - I want to make very typical desi things because they’re quite old and don’t think they ‘get’ pizzas or pastas - they like their pakorays and samosa’s much more. So any desi dish ideas pls???
Potato Cutlets, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Falafel, Onion Rings, Cheese Balls. For all of them you dont need any meat. I always give coffee delight as the option for Sweet Dish. Its very simple to make. Blancmange can be made too or Cheesecake if they would like. vermicelli in condensed milk taste yummy too. Lemon Meringue Pie can be an option too.
It’s just chai, so what you’ve already listed is sufficient especially for one or two guests. I’m more partial to samosay than pakoray because they look neater presentation-wise. But if you want to add more items, here are some ideas:
Namkeen:
Stuffed pastries such as samosay, patties, or spring rolls.
Cutlets
Aloo ki tikkiyan
Nimko (you can get packets of it from a desi market).
Sweets:
Halwa..can be a simple suji ka halwa
Gulab jamun
Rasmalai
Shahi tukray
Kheer
^It’s nnabid’s dawat. Cookies is a good idea :k:…especially Desi cookies. She mentioned that her khala is older and prefers desi food. She already has chana chaat as an item so fruit chaat won’t work as it’ll be two chaats. But she could serve fruit like mangos, etc separately…or with whipped cream. Or she could do a trifle…but that has cake…and it doesn’t make sense to have a separate cake in addition.
thanks guppies for all the great advice - helpful as alwayssssssss
I did the dawat - this is what I had:
RV’s chana chaat in the top corner
Tuna fish puff pastry - desi style
Plain cake with fresh cream icing
rocky road
nachos
cookies and biscuits
baingan ke pakoray and keema samosay
I found out at the last minute my bro was coming who doesn’t eat ANY desi stuff so had to quickly improvise with some non-desi snacks lol.
Channa chaat was the biggest hit, which is funny as I’ve never made it before and I hate it haha! Thanks all for the ideas they’re great and I’ll probably use them next time!
