Such a monumental failing of intelligence as not detecting Bin Laden in such a military city represents a total military intelligence failure - the very reason for ISI’s existence.
As leader of the agency, Lt. General Pasha bears responsibility for its failure and should step down immediately.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
Pasha should resign whether military wanted to protect OBL or wanted to kill him. If they wanted to "protect" then they failed, if they wanted to kill him he should still resign as to how he remained in such place for that long.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
From BBC:
**
1720:** There was no indication that Pakistan was aware of the presence of Bin Laden at the Abbottabad compound, US intelligence officials say, according to Reuters.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
I can understand, because of the information disconnect in our country, that no body gave a damn to a 18 feet wall mansion in Abbotabad, but what about the SHO, commissioner and other officials of that city. They never wondered who lives inside that compound that has no exterior windows. That is amazing.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
ISI chief should resign
The military needs to impose a state of emergency to deal with an iron hand with all the jihadi militant outfits once and for all. It will take a few years but we need to deal with this menace for good and close the Soviet-Afghan chapter of operating/supporting militant franchises.
This government needs to go. Bring someone who has credibility with the masses and can create short term and long term economic development.
Honestly, this is a massive embarrassment for everything Pakistani.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
^ so in other words a complete Pak intelligence failure
and a slap on face of military for their "preparedness" . Forget for a moment the objective of American operation - How on earth two non-Pakistani helicopters managed to land in heart of our major military town in dark and flew back without triggering ANY defence response (Remember, apparently, Pakistani government didn't know about the operation till it ended).

I agree with the sentiment, but it's not the ISIs responsibility to ward off an invading force. Perhaps Gen. Kayani should be the one stepping down, if the Pakistani forces had nothing to do with the assault as we are told. If it is true that no one in Pakistan was given the heads-up on the invasion, then those choppers should have been shot down before penetrating so deep into pak territory. Yes, it's true that pak is concentrating on different attack vectors, and yes this compound would not have been defended as pak nuclear facilities would have been. But regardless, a strict policy of going through the proper channels needs to be enforced.

Yes!
Now, mind you, it's possible to forge transponder signals, and have fake markings...helicopters which fly nape of the earth are usually below radar. But that's a side matter...the point is, there are assets in pakistan that are worth protecting, and the impunity with which this raid was conducted should be cause for concern. If there was Pak co-operation, then there is double cause for concern...why did the pak forces not conduct the raid themselves? There are no acceptable scenarios given how events transpired, I'm afraid.

I agree. We all remember the continuous chant of our leaders and politician from last 10 years that Osama is not in Pakistan, and the dude was living 25 miles from the presidency. That is embarrassing.

Embarrassing, sure. But it's not the low point. The Raymond Davis issue firmly established that Pakistani sovereignty is as mythical as a unicorn, and worth as much as used toilet paper thanks to current "leadership".

Clearly choppers took off from within Pakistan, so its not question of why those choppers were not shot down. Pak's military is clearly involved.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
^ if it is they need to say so clearly. cowardly reasons for not wanting to appear to have had a hand in it, amplified by the appearance of impotence is NOT an image they should want to fester.

In a sense, I would like to believe this, but there is little to no confirmation of this from sources that matter. For obvious reasons, to be sure...but it's something we should demand the Pak government and military establishment fess up to. It directly contradicts the American take on the events, and if indeed we are to question this, then why so hard on ISI? Perhaps they had an understated role in all of this, and there was no failure on their part? I'm afraid we're being too selective in who we want to believe.
I still think your statement can be generalized to the entire Pakistani military establishment.

but then 'helping' US in killing OBL would've been seen as dangerous as well, so Pak arm/intelligence is caught between rock and hard place.
Re: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha should do the decent things and resign
He should step down, also General Kiyani should be gone too. If they can't protect Pakistani airspace & soil deep inside ... and on top of that within meters range of Pakistan biggest Military complex. According to the reports the crashed helicopter was foreign.
