~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

Pretty nice article in the Toronto Star.

http://www.jucanada.org/library/liberating_veil.htm

I’m suprised it came in the newspaper. Glad to know its getting out there

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

the article denies the religious meaning of hijaab, and reduce it to a political, social argument…even to a tool against diet used by overwieght girls to escape from others eyes

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

Where in teh hell did you read that in the article? There was not a single mention fo dieting of being overweight or anything..

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

But all the girls i see in niqaab and abaya are so smart and sexy. I think overweight girls dont wear these type of cloths or else they dont look overweight :konfused:

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

It gives you the FREEDOM the girl has, to ability to control her beauty and exposure...froma non muslim's point of view, its a powerful statement.

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

i read the whole article;) even last lines;)

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

we obviously live in different places;)

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

So did I and i saw no mention of hijab being an excuse to be fat, just not obsessed with looks as much (always doing ur hair, makeup, right clothes etc).. theres a difference..

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

if a girl needs a hijaab not to be obssessed with looks, well it's not a hijaab she needs, it's a psy!

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

i know:halo: and i like it…it’s just that some people have problems to understand things in "context’:halo:

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

^i don't get wht u mean...........

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

^^^kust like everone else in this thread...nobody got the meaning of the article, cause the writer is a western (staying there) lady, and it has to be understood with this persepctive, her words are weighted, and the background meaning is what i mentioned in my first post
When Islam came along in the 7th century AD, it adopted the head covering for free women, and instructed them to pull down their headscarves to cover their bosoms as well.
By the 12th century, some jurists considered the distinction between free and slave women irrelevant, Emon says. Eventually, all Muslim women were required to wear the headscarf "because they are all a source of seduction."
this passage is the most obvious, it clearly states that head covering is a social thing, and that islam ADAPTED to that practice! if hijaab was quranic it would have been a comon practice since the begining as quran is for all times not only for some times....
"A strong argument can be made that the headscarf is no longer a matter of religious law as it is about political identity in the modern day," he says, recalling that the headscarf was adopted for the first time in Egypt after the British took control of the country in 1882.
furthermore the article clearly says that hijaab is more poltical than religious

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

here you go:
By covering up, I felt liberated from those pressures. I didn't have to be thin.
Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

that line in know way means that she was using hijab as an excuse to be fat. it simply means that she doesnt have to look good or ugly or short or tall or fat or thin....get it? if you dont get that paris...then God help you!

but go on....keep trying to justify why women shouldnt wear hijab :)

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

so whats wrong with that? that statememt in based on the authors opinion which doesnt necessarily reflect on the truth in most cases.

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

LOL:D and do you have to look thin without hijaab? where is it written?? if that girl is stupid enough to buy crap from magasine, a hijaab is not going to make her smart…
poor stupid girl

you’re funny AE, i dont’ justify that women should not wear veil, my only concern is that women should care more about their brains than their clothes :rotfl:

and you girls just CARE toooooooooooooooooo much about hairstyles, waxing, clothing…

and not about your independance of spirit, as you get so easily influenced by guys ou are running after for marriage

Re: ~! Liberating Veil - beautiful read.

^ Captain planet ! you are my hero :Salute:

sara I live in P.A.K.I.S.T.A.N the country next to Afghanistan, where sexy girls wear abaya and niqaab
