For anyone that thinks Liberals are Islam’s friend, this video should dispel all such misconceptions.
Its Bill Maher, no less. Watch him spew poison like an uneducated fool. They are bigots, just of a different kind.
Muslims in US are on their own. We need to build our own power base.

Bill Maher is a new atheist, and has many far, far-right opinions when it comes to religion, and Islam/Muslim-related foreign policy in particular. This is a trend among new atheists, where they take a very hawkish stance in defense of liberal ideals. There are other liberal ideologues who share the same militant stance, who do not proclaim to be in the “new atheist” crowed. This should not be confused with those who hold a more general liberal world view. It should be noted that Ben Affleck is quite the liberal, and was very disgusted with what Bill had to say.
Move beyond labels. In general, the trend is moving towards Islam-hating attitudes among the masses. The old hat liberals are still the holdouts.

Bill Maher is no liberal. He has some liberal views. But he also holds some repugnant views as seen in this video. True liberals won’t speak like this.

that’s the thing - there is no true liberal, or maybe a few out of those who claim to be liberal are really that open. most have liberal views on many topics - legalize marijuana, let the homosexuals marry, keep religion out of schools and govt, no to guns, increase minimum wage etc.. most of these don’t jive with conservative muslim ideology and societies, and i dont see US “liberals” being able to endorse muslims any more than they would endorse conservative republican views.

True liberals try to take the policy of live and let live, equal rights for all, freedom of and from religion, minimum wage, stay away from unnecessary wars. All of these are consistent with not bashing a specific religion - in this case Islam.
Bill Maher has been unnecessarily hostile towards Islam. That said, a liberal would not endorse minority bashing, whether that bashing occurs against Muslims or against gays.

one little addition.
Reza Arslan is pretty twisted him self too. His recent book “zealot” he says(in my words) “jesus(as) was a man and a God”
He goes on and on, if history and scripture dont agree scripture is wrong.
And that is what he get out of history that a man was infact a God.
He is not the person I would like to present islam. Period.
Now if Bill is picking on islam and Reza is defending, its essentially a lose, lose situation.

I don’t like Bill Maher. Having said that, I hope it’s just a phase for him. As someone who has radically transformed her ideas and opinions of religion and politics, I have gone through many phases of disliking one group while liking another. It’s all about picking sides until you have realized it really is about “live and let live”…
