I would consider you a liberal but you have a good head on you shoulder and you are very reasonable, sensible, weigh pros and cons of every situation really well, which is why I think you are one of the best examples of a moderate desi on this forum.

I’m confused, I thought Enigmatic was talking about you. Why would I oppose desi women’s rights? :frowning: I consider myself a rebel in my khandaan in terms of standing up for women’s rights like marriage, education, jobs, house, property, treating daughters same as sons, putting an end to dumb traditions like dowry etc etc… so I don’t get it.

Where did the words slut and drunkard come from? You do know I live in Ireland, right? A country where half the population makes beer and the other half drinks it? And ALL my friends are non-muslims and ALL of them love to do things that I’d consider horrendous for my own children/siblings e.g. drinking, zina etc. I’ve never judged them, never treated them differently than how I would treat a desi friend. You asked me whether these things are cool with me and I said no and the reason is obvious - t’is haram. How is that stereotyping?

Yes that could be conservative or liberal. They are both hot headed and want his/her way or the highway…The way I see it the two parties don’t get along at all.

I know yara, no need to give justifications. I understand where you're coming from and I'm just putting forward my point of view. As I said, I am enjoying a good mature debate.

I don't (neither do I have the right to) challenge your principles. This thread is only about who is liberal, conservative or moderate. You are CONSERVATIVE, and I think you will agree with me.

Like my aunt is liberal. My cousins never drank, but my aunt never had any problems with them going out with girls.

Understood and agreed. I'm happy being where I am unless my views are mentally or physically harming someone or impeding positive progress in the society.

Enjoying this thread. Your premise on moderates appearsto be they are more sensible than either extreme. IMO, there is no such thing as a moderate - for each issue, one takes a stand.

Abortion, pro choice
Equal rights for everyone, discrimination
Increase taxes, decrease taxes
spend more to help the poor, spend less
Make hate crimes severelt punishable, not
health care for all, for select few
Bail out corporations with tax payer money, no way

No middle ground here. Each of us has to choose. (Oops, agreeing with Diwana again :)

If you read the whole thread as you say, you would know that initially (and primarily) the OP basically asked to put people into categories i.e liberal, mod or con.

And anyways, everyone is talking about who is in which category.

for the issues you have mentioned, yes. There can't be a middle ground for such issues because the choice isn't available the way you have put it.. Moderates will tell you: well, i am pro choice but I do not condone abortion just for the heck of it, the girl should be a victim of sexual abuse, rape or whatnot for an abortion to be ok for me. They would tell you tax the rich more and tax the poor less. Healthcare should be available to all but the richa$$ dudes need to pay for most of it.

They see the grey area that most liberals and conservatives miss. What's the difference between moderates and liberals/conservative: they can be easily convinced and are likely to be right. I am a hardcore liberal and I wish I could see things sometime that are crystal clear to moderates. It takes me a while to see it from their point of view.
