Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

Hey guys,

Let’s talk BREAD! That’s right! I love bread, especially the comforting smells of fresh bread being baked…mmmmmm. It can be fattening but its a soothing food to eat! So, list your favorite types of bread…could be desi…or otherwise. It’s fun to try out new things/suggestions from others. Here are my favorites:

Desi: aaloo/gobi ka paratha, naan, sheermal, onion kulcha

Other: Pepperidge Farm’s multi-grain bread, biscuits, bagels, zaatar, french bread, focaccia bread.

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

popeye's/kfc's biscuits but only when FRESH.

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

^^^^^^ TOTALLY!!!!!!!!!!! Love those biscuits from Popeye's! That's the only thing we get from there. You know who else makes really good...to die for biscuits? RED LOBSTER! Until I found out that they're not halal! Why are all the yummy things either too fattening or not halal. It's some conspiracy of the Universe! Anyhow, I've read how to make the halal version of Red Lobster biscuits and one of these days, I'm gonna try to make em.

Re: Let’s talk BREAD!!!

KFC’s biscuits… MMM LOVE THOSE!

Bread of the desi variety.. hmm… garlic naan, freshly baked soft warm naans slightly buttered, aloo paratha and kachoris… God the yummy kachoriyaan I ate in peshawar made fresh every hour by khan baba :hayaa:

I love garlic bread, gyro bread, flatbread, sesame bread, rye bread, paska, russian black bread, italian bread… pita bread, and nothing beats turkish bread! Thats the best everrrrr! Twice a week I scarf down a threepack of turkish bread… fattening but oh soooo comforting! A close second is kaleech- a russian sweet bread with raisins and fruits.

Its funny I never used to care much for breads and stuff, but its like my main addiction at the moment.

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

Chapaty , roomali --- roti that is and paapar.

Hey Sunset, that's great! I love homemade breads too! I know how to make naans and pizza base but I recently tried soft pretzels and burger buns and they didn't come out so good. The bottom part was all dark and hard to chew. Do you know what I could be doing wrong? BTW, I let the dough covered and kept in warm place for over an hour in both cases.

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

red lobster biscuits are haram??? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's the only real reason i go there....otherwise i can get salmon.shrimp elsewhere!
:(

Hi CA,

Im not sure about the pretzels. Did you follow the reciepe properly? Re buns, you need to get the ingredients EXACTLY right. I always make sure i have got the correct measurements of ingredients to the book when i am baking. Same goes for baking breads.

When you make buns, what are the ingredients and whats the process you go thru? Maybe i can help suggest something then?

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

i also love the big roll of multigrain bread they give u at both macaroni grill n bonefish grill....with the dipping oil...yummmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Desi: buttered nan, garlic naan, aloo parahta, qeema/chicken naan
Afghani bread rocks with their chutney assortments
french baguettes slices and slightly toasted with butter or a spread is amazing, as is fresh italian bread with butter.....

Re: Let's talk BREAD!!!!!

so anyone bakes bread at home?
freshly baked bread or buns at home are amazing. Only downside of this is that they should be consumed within 2-3 days. Since there are no preservatives at all they just don't stay the same after one day and tend to get harder and old much quickly. I have baked breads and sweet coconut buns at home and thety are yummy....takes long time but worth it.

Well, I did everything exactly as instructed except for I baked the breads a little longer because I wasn't getting a nice brown color on buns and pretzels. Here's the recipe:

Buns Recipe (by Rahat)

Ingredients:

4 cups All Purpose Flour
2 tbs Milk powder (substituted with whole milk)
1 tsp Salt
4 tsp Sugar
1 tbs Yeast
2-3 tbs Ghee/clarified butter
warm water
egg

Method:
1. Mix all ingredients except eggs and make into dough.
2. Leave it aside for 5 mins.
3. Make into balls. Put them in baking pan. Keep aside until they rise(over an hour). Brush with egg.
4.Heat oven at 425F. Bake for 12-15 mins.
