Re: Lets learn local languages

I think that unit was prevalent before British era and you can hear old people using this terms across India / Pakistan.

Re: Lets learn local languages

So what is so special with Iyer-Iyengar types that they have all science nobel awarded to India except one??

Kos is probably equal to english word mile, nearly 1.4 Kms:)

Re: Lets learn local languages

Smart people are everywhere. Hopefully, there will be plenty of Science nobel prizes awarded to other communities also :)

Re: Lets learn local languages

I think because of importance given to education, I was talking to my telgu friend two days before, he is from IIT madras, his comment was even though Telgus are more in IIT but research is still tamilian domain, even IIT kanpur's top researchers are Tamilians. they don't have noble for mathematics else it would have started from Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar:D

Re: Lets learn local languages

^ Yes - there is emphasis on education. If you go to villages though, you will find plenty of run of the mill people also. Also, some communities are great in business, some in sports, some are warriors. And as the folks who have not historically have been left behind get equal chance, I think deomcratization will happen in all fields!
