what's the calculation for India? How can they go through to the semis?

You forgot the first two real miracles that already happened. First England beating SA comprehensively. Second, the run rate of SA and NZ are lower than Pakistan. Now we don't have to worry about run rate either. When I saw S.Africans dropping all these catches of Peterson and other batsmen, then I was sure there is a divine intervention favoring Pakistan :D
At least we have one more game to look forward too which can help us going to the semis despite losing two games. We can definitely beat SA. They are also struggling like us and in my opinion they don't look anywhere close to the caliber of Australia. Please reopen the case :)
I'm telling you guys , God Almighty is on our side. Lagta hey Waqar Younis ki duayain qubool horahi hein :)

India needs to beat Sri Lanka, plus Aus needs to beat WI (which is very likely going to happen).
Also, India will need to chase any target by SL in 17.4 overs, defeat SL by 20 runs.
Re: Let the calculations begin
Mubarak to everyone. After winning 2 games in the whole tournament so far, Pakistan is through to the semis. Now just two more wins inshaAllah.
India needs to beat Sri Lanka, plus Aus needs to beat WI (which is very likely going to happen).
Both scenarios are definitely possible

^^ what are the margins?? simple win will work?

If WI beats Australia and India beats SL, Pak may not have to face Aussies in semi final and play windies instead!
I can count four things going our way already in this tournament that were NOT in our control.
i) Aussies beating BD to put Pakistan through to Super-Eights
ii) England beating SA to stop Pakistan’s early exit
iii) England doing the favour again to beat NZL
What If England will do us another favour by beating Australia in semis and hence throwing our recent thrashers away so that we can return ALL these favours in an ultimate way by beating England in the final ![]()
I heard on GEO News that Indian Channels are reporting that if India can repeat a similar performance like Pakistan did and then luck favors India in Windies-Aussie game then India might qualify for the semi final where they can beat England and there could be a chance of India Pakistan final.

^ Theoretically possible though
As much as we all want Pakistan to do well, I feel that it just isn’t right that two teams who fared so badly in super8 - losing two games out of three, assuming India beats SLA tomorrow - could theoretically now make the final
What message are the T20 organisers sending out to the players and fans? that it is ok to lose two games in what should be treated as knockout or QF games. They need to do a serious rethink of the super8 format.
And it w’d be esp. bad for the tournament organisers if both the undefeated teams - Australia and England - are knocked out of the tournament after losing just one game! ![]()
Re: Let the calculations begin
Formula for getting into semis FOR RENT. Special discount for our Indian Brothers :)
It simply means that their method of moving forward/elimination has flaws and Pakistan got thru that crack ![]()

Single league group games, where the two top teams move to semi-finals is not an unusual format. It's just that Pakistan ended up as the second best team in the group and proceeded on. NZL and RSA only won one game, and at least one of their losses was substantial. Between the three, Pakistan got better results and hence rightfully move on.
I'd understand your argument, if the format was such that Pakistan would qualify to knock out rounds, even after coming 4th in the group and then eliminating the top team from the other group. That'd have been unfair. But here Pakistan ended up second and moved on.
By the way, the World Cup 2011 format is very idiotic. Seven teams in each group will toil away for month, and then four teams from each group will proceed to quarterfinal stage. Basically, just the last seven games in the tournament (out of 40-50) will matter. I mean you can assume that the top eight teams will end up among four best in each group and will play quarterfinals.

i hope SL beat india ![]()
Re: Let the calculations begin
WI will need to beat Aus by 24 runs or chase target in 17.2 overs to kick SL out.
Re: Let the calculations begin
WI would be an easy target for England. I hope SL goes through and they most likely will.
