Is there anything you can do with them instead of throwing them away?
We make rice for couple of days but some days we just can’t finish it in two days (eating out, forgetting to pack lunch, skipping dinner etc etc) and then I have to throw them away… I can’t stand throwing away food and it hurts me to throw rice away at least once a week!!
What can I do with the leftover biryani/matar palao/ etc etc???
Give it to your neighbours on the day you ve cooked it .. keeping in mind that only if you ve cooked too much and can judge that there maybe left over. Dont give them when you finished with them cos Islam teaches that 'LIKE for others what you like for yourself'
or if u do decide to give to neighbours ask them that these Chawal are still edible and have not gone Kharaab would you still take em rather than me throwing away... or if you have a cat or a halal animal i.e. goat, etc then give it to pets.
or whhat my dad always says in our house about any food even Roti... only cook waht you can eat .. if there arnt enough for one time ... you can always cook them again its not like if someone eats a few spoons less they aint gona survive the day ..
sarab.. I had no idea you could freezer rice.. hmmm will look into it!!
Fbi... first of all no neighbors/no pets.. honestly I dun even know who is my next door neighbor because that's how reserved people are in my apt. complex.. anyway, you are right about cooking just the right amount but we hardly ever have time during the work week to cook everyday.. we always make salan on the weekend that we freeze and cook just enough rice to last us for couple of days including taking them to work for lunch but lately we have been eating out just fo no reasons and it ends up sitting in the fridge for more than 2 days hence the dilemma!
YES, spread them out on a huge round tray [seenii] and then let it dry [dehydrate] preferably in the sun till it reverts back to look like a real rice [chaawal] and then store in a bag at room temperature for a max of 60 years or less [rice is always the older the better]. u can cook as u like...the best biryani is made from this kind of dehydrated rice. :D enjoy and mere liye du'aa kijiyegaa :D
Lol. I used to stick bread in the freezer at uni because I could never finish it within the expiry date.
As for leftover rice, I've had bad experience when I was in kindergarten. Had some leftover rice and got so sick that I can recall it vividly, had to be admitted to hospital too. Now however my immunity to leftover rice is much improved :)

Same here with the bread, still do it now even 2 of us cant finish a loaf before it expires. Plus it only takes about an hour for 2 slices to bread to defrost.
You do have to be careful with rice, if you don't heat it fully it can be really dangerous.
Well these days we have microwaves to heat stuff properly so that's not an issue anymore. And hey you can always defrost bread in microwave or under a grill.
Better still , since you know that there is a fairly good chance of you skipping dinner etc ... then why not make lesser food in the first instance? for example, if you usually take out two cups of rice to soak , intentionally reduce it to One and a half cup ! and even if the rice is not enough to last you through the week , you can always eat out ...
if you have boiled rice you can make rice balls,or convert it to meethay chawal
the rest any kind of rice or food you can freeze.
but if the thing you're most worried about is rice why dont you microwave rice when and as required
add 1 cup rice to 2 cups water in a large microwavable bowl and cook on full for 10 mins...plz adjust timing to your microwave 8/12 etc
Thanks everyone... so I guess rice can be frozen!!! I will remember it for next time!!
Definitely working on cooking not as much as we usually do..Being married for so many years and I still dun get the quantities right.. eitehr it's too much or too less!!! sighhh
