Lebanese Christian leader killed

Lebanese Industry Minister Pierre Gemayel, a Maronite Christian leader, has been killed in the capital Beirut.

Mr Gemayel, a leading anti-Syrian politician, was reportedly shot in the street in a Christian suburb and rushed to hospital, where he died. His death comes amid a political crisis in Lebanon, following the resignation of six pro-Syrian cabinet members. Mr Gemayel was a member of the Phalange Party and the son of former President Gemayel Amin. Gunmen opened fire on Mr Gemayel’s convoy as it travelled through Sin el-Fil neighbourhood, Reuters news agency quoted security sources as saying.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

and the point to discuss is???

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

how will the christians react to this?

whether they will go after hezbollah....

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

its not really a christian/muslim issue. He wasnt killed because of his religion. After the killing the first guy to give a news conference was a christian who was anti gov and in support of hezbullah.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

Not a matter of religion? Hezbullah is a lynchpin to Muslim opposition to Israel. It is supported by the most radical of Muslim governments. And there have been not one, but eight assasinations. But hey, Hezbullah are saints, the golden boys of the Muslim world, so as long as they kill Jews they are OK.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

^ Just like Israelis are the golden boys of the west, so long as they kill muslims they are not only OK, but plane loads of ammunition is sent to them as reward.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

It is too early to say who killed him and why?

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

So you guys don't think christians are fighting with Hezbollah?

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

^^ A new twist on "Where is the Proof?"

Of course, it has been years and an inquirey into the Hariri murder is still not under way. Not much justice there. Not much interest in truth. So we sort of have to go with presumption, as the alternative is to be stalled forever until the evidence has grown cold. Hezbullah is a heavily armed minority, bent on dominating Lebanon with the help of two countries who care not a whit for Lebanon so long as Jews die.

Iran an Syria are perfectly happy to let Palestinians and Lebanese die, and to sacrifice any principle so long as Israel is tormented.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

The reason seems to be the anti-Syrian coalition issue. Their former Prime Minister was killed last year due to the same reason too.

As always, US interference - Bush has called for full investigation :hoonh:

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

A call for a full investigation is interference? Why in the world would you favor continued killings without investigations? Is your bias against US so entrenched that such a fair and logical call such as a full investigation is unwanted/unwarranted interference?

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

No. Its led by muslims, its members are majority muslims, but generally has immense support from the ground root, christian and other minorities, esp. when it comes to israel. Its more of a nationalistic/political org than a religious one, hence caters for, and alligns itself with people of all backgrounds.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

did hariri die due to his faith also? or are the political tussles there more than just about faith?

we all have theories..

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

Because unfortunately, the words fair and logical are the last thing that comes to mind when the US calls for any external investigation.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

Can anyone show me call for full investigation when 37 children were killed in Qana recently, courtsey of israeli indiscriminate bombing.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

^It was Palestinian anti-semitic propoganda.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

who is he to demand an investigation?. And if he is doing it because of "ethics" then how about demanding Isreal to investigate all the killings too.

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

Whats there to investigate?

Hezbollah Nazis use crowded areas to fire Rockets into Israel and then when Israel fires back and innocent people die, Israel gets bad press and Hezbollah wins more support.

So a win win situation for Hezbollah

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

^^
am really not sure what to reply here

Re: Lebanese Christian leader killed [split]

All the more reason for the Great democracy to call for full investigation to show the world that it wasn't the Israeli pilots indiscriminate bombing but the terrible Hezbollah. Why didn't they call for an investigation than? Or were they afraid that the truth might come out?
