Lavish preparations for Karisma's wedding

[thumb=D]karismak.JPG[/thumb]

The D-day-September 29, is getting closer.

Karisma is all excited about her marriage to childhood friend Sunjay Kapur. Living up to the Kapoor tradition, the marriage is to take place at the Deonar Cottage and the couple will marry according to Sikh rites.

Manish Malhotra has designed Karisma’s outfit that is likely to be cream colored as the marriage is in the day. Sunjay’s clothes have been designed by Rohit Bal.

Karisma has chosen to wear subtle colours unlike the loud ones that she has often worn in films. Also she is going to wear heavy diamond jewelry and her jootis too will be encrusted with diamonds.

The food at the marriage is going to be a gastronome’s delight. Chef from Sun n Sand is going to arrange an array of dishes right from Indian to Thai to Lebanese to Italian to cater to the different tastes of the guests.

The Venue RK Studio is being readied with mirror work and mogra for the biggest event in the Kapoor family. The guests will be served starters and drinks at 11.30 in the morning, while the marriage ceremony takes place.

After which the guests will be served sumptuous lunch. The venue of the reception however is going to be kept under wraps. But before marriage, Sanjay Kapur is to hold a lavish party on Saturday where sister Kareena and mother Babita will wear heavy zardozi sarees.

The mehendi ceremony is to take place on Sunday. Karisma and Kareena will wear satin-silk lehengas while Babita will don heavy shalwar-kameez.

someone i know at college told me she's invited to the wedding!!!

cool huh?

This is what it looked like on the day.....

Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor on Monday tied the knot with Delhi industrialist Sunjay Kapur, as the who’s who of the entertainment industry landed at RK Cottage in Chembur for the ceremony.

The most-awaited wedding in recent Indian showbiz history was solemnised by a ceremony performed according to Sikh rites. The Bachchans weren’t there, but the turnout created a big enough buzz.

Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Govinda, Rajesh Khanna, Rakesh Roshan,Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra, Govinda, Amrish Puri, Rahul and Akshaye Khanna, Simi Garewal, Sooraj Barjatiya, Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Satish Kaushik, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, Yash and Pamela Chopra, Anand and Anuradha Mahindra, Raja and Queenie Dhodhy, Zarine Khan and Farah Khan, J P Dutta and Bindiya Goswami, Kumar Gaurav, Atul Agnihotri... there were stars everywhere.

But no star was as bright as Karisma herself. Indeed, it was the day of the bride. Dressed in a fully embroidered rose pink lehenga designed by Manish Malhotra, and heavy jewellery, the dulhan was brought to the venue by best friend and sister-in-law Mandira Kapoor and younger sister Kareena, looking resplendent in a green and pink lehenga choli.

Quite at her blushing best, Karisma was seen clutching Mandira’s hand tightly, her eyes full of emotion as she walked towards the mandap. Dulha Sunjay, dressed in a Rohit Bal-designed white churidar-sherwani, a golden turban and a chain of gold coins around his neck, came in a car, along with his parents.

Greeting the guests at the entrance were Karisma’s father Randhir, and uncle Rajiv Kapoor, dressed in white achkans. Further inside was grandmother Krishna Raj Kapoor, looking regal in a gold brocade sari and mother of the bride, Babita, who wore a peach and silver salwar kameez.

Among the early birds on the guest list were Bharat Shah, Smita Thackery, Subhash Ghai and wife Rehana, ex-cricketer Azharuddin and Sangeeta Bijlani and Bunty Walia — all of whom were ushered into the venue even as a crowd congregated outside.

Also seen were Union minister Vijay Goel, Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Shukla, deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal with nephew Samir, Subbirami Reddy, city elite Godrej heir Tania, Bina Ramani, Mahesh and Haseena Jethmalani. Toyotas vied for parking space with Mercs as the big daddies of Bollywood arrived on the scene. Even heavy rains failed to put a dampener on the big day.

The anticipation and action, of course, had built up much earlier. Only friends and family were invited to this 800-invitee wedding. But this didn’t prevent all roads from leading to RK Studios, not only on Monday morning, but from Sunday evening onwards.

Has any1 got pictures taken at her wedding, pls post sooon!

Karisma wedding splits Bollywood

By Mid-Day, September 29th, 2003 - 0900 hrs IST

Tinsel town may be a fickle world, but not fickle enough to overlook allegiances and loyalties.

Hence, on the eve of the fourth generation wedding in Bombay cinema's 'first family' — actress Karisma Kapoor ties the knot with Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapur today — the collective hushed toned conversations in filmdom resemble a din.

The din and dilemma is over who will seemingly upset another family, the Bachchans, by occupying the 4,200 sq metre tent area for the forenoon Sikh wedding at the Kapoors' Deonar ancestral cottage.

The little background to the present purported predicament? Amitabh Bachchan's son, Abhishek Bachchan, was engaged to Karisma Kapoor. The two were reportedly slated for a wedding in September this year — a commitment that was dishonoured due to reasons not officially revealed.

Many invited to Karisma's wedding now believe their attendance might sour ties with the Bachchans. Or as an insider put it, “This is a way for the Bachchans to know who constitute their family and who are their friends.”

Though no confirmed lists exist in such cases, sources suggest that those who may decline father Randhir Kapoor's hand-written invitation, in lieu of the neatly demarcated Bachchan-Kapoor line are, to begin with, Bachchan's inner troika: Anil Ambani, Amar Singh and Sahara CEO Subrata Ray. Ray's latter's apparent decision to not attend is peculiar, considering Karisma is the eponymous star of Sahara's mega television series.

Equally in line, sources add, would be the absence of Ridhima Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor's daughter and Karisma's cousin, who is supposedly close to Shweta Bachchan, Abhishek's sister — who will of course, skip the nuptial ceremony.

As will Abhishek's mates: producer Vicky Nihalani — one time boyfriend of Kareena Kapoor (Karisma's sister) — restaurateur Chirag Doshi and the couple Sonali Bendre and Goldie Behl. Again, Behl falls in the centre of the touted divide, since his late father, filmmaker Ramesh Behl, was equally attached to Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek's mother.

Hence, there appears to be a tacit whip in operation and many such as Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, caught in the quagmire, have chosen to align on Bachchan's side, sources suspect.

Salman Khan, on the other hand, has decided to don his suit for the marriage, though not before offering Abhishek a succinct explanation. As has industrialist Chakor Doshi, a family friend of the Bachchans.

Such gossip in film circles notwithstanding, tinsel-town they say is a fickle world, where today's “dividing lines” are history by tomorrow. A case in point exists among the Kapoors themselves.

In a similar fashion, Raj Kapoor's daughter Reema Kapoor's engagement with Kumar Gaurav, actor Rajinder Kumar's son, had to be called off. However, that did not affect the apparent bonhomie between the Kumars and the Kapoors. So it shall be, we presume with the Kapoors and the Bachchans, in this enduring real-life Bollywood saga.

In...

  • Salman Khan
  • David Dhawan
  • Champa and Chakor Doshi
  • Ritu Nanda, Karisma's aunt and Shweta Bachchan's mother-in-law
  • Twinkle Khanna
  • Govinda

Out....

  • Amar Singh
  • Anil Ambani
  • Shah Rukh Khan
  • Karan Johar
  • Goldie Behl and Sonali Bendre
  • Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda
  • Vicky Nihalani
  • Ridhima Kapoor, Karisma's cousin

** from a personal point of view, let's say for arguments sake that i was invited to the wedding and i was a actor etc and if i was facing a dilemma in this situation, i would go to the wedding regardless of the fact where my loyalty lies as whatever the argument it's entirely between the bachchan's and the kapoors and not the guests **
