Lavender / Jasmine Oil for hair

Hey everyone,

Posted this in response to another thread but got PMs asking more about it so thought I’d share this with you all in a bit more detail…

I’m no scientist but I am a huge natural remedies / treatments geek so have tried various things and this works best (so far).

You will need (just two things!):

  1. Lavender oil / jasmine oil
  2. Any other hair oil (this can be dabur amla, bio amla, olive oil, argan oil, etc)

What to do:

  1. Shampoo and condition as normal.
  2. Mix the two oils in the following quantities: 1 part lavendar oil or jasmine oil AND 3 parts of any other oil that you choose. (You can mix and store them in the same bottle - you don’t have to mix it just before application.)
  3. After washing your hair and your hair is still wet, shake the mix, and pour a tiny bit into your palm (the size of a small coin). The amount will obviously depend on the length of your hair but it just needs to be as little as possible.
  4. Run the oil on your hands through the length of your hair (not at your roots! Or you’ll be a greasepot) - just the same as you would apply conditioner.
  5. Comb hair - start from top on both sides, then through the length so that you don’t pass the oil to the top of your head.
  6. Then dry as normal - either naturally or with hair dryer (though, I would obviously advise against using a hair dryer).
  7. Style as normal.
  8. Do this every time you wash your hair.

You will find that once your hair dries, it won’t be greasy. And you can style it as normal. I wash my hair maximum twice a week - in other words, this treatment doesn’t leave my hair greasy.

The benefits:

  • It smells fantastic - like a spa. Amla usually smells awful in public but the lavender kills that smell.
  • The oil stays in your hair much longer than if you just apply it before washing (hence treats it for longer).
  • Lavender oil makes your hair dark, strong, thick and you should find that you need trimming less regularly / less split ends.
  • Reduces / prevents fall out.
  • If you use straighteners / other heat styling, you’ll find your hair won’t be damaged by it.
  • If you need to use additional styling products, such as serums / heat protection - you can still do that (I do) - you will use less of it - but still use it. (Save money on that GHD bill!). It won’t weigh your hair down.
  • If your hair is very fine, still try it using less quantities. Your hair should get thicker.

I prefer lavender oil - it worked better on me than Jasmine. Most people I have told this to also prefer lavender.

Lavender oil is also cheaper and easier to find.

Also, the lavender/jasmine oil won’t work if you use it by itself. I don’t know why, but for some reason, it needs another oil to ‘carry’ it…

InshaAllah your hair will be divine X

Disclaimer: Everyone’s hair is different. This has worked for me and whoever I have told it to so far. No guarantee it will work for you but I reckon it’s better to try this than all that chemical nonsense!

Ps. I’ve heard that men swear by this to prevent balding

Hmm ill probably give this one a try

Re: Lavender / Jasmine Oil for hair

abeera hun - one question: have u noticed instantaneous results or does it take some time for one to realize/see a difference in their hair? :)

Re: Lavender / Jasmine Oil for hair

@PunjabiRose, for me, I noticed a difference very quickly (like within a few washes). Weeks not months :)

I guess it's more effective than other treatments because it stays in your hair practically all the time.

@Shaz - sorry chica! "Hug" accepted X

(Btw, I looked at it again... It still doesn't look like a hug :p )
