Rashid Latif, the former Pakistan captain, has refused to take up the role of chief selector offered by PCB chairman Najam Sethi. Latif was named head of the national selection committee in February, and his tenure was scheduled to start on April 1. Latif, though, has refused to sign the contract.
“I refuse PCB officially,” he said, in a statement issued to the media. “No hard feelings for both parties, I don’t want to get into controversy and I hope Pakistan cricket will flourish under the chairman and board. I will not make any further statement. There has been too much [speculation] in the media and I would like to break my silence and announce that I will not join PCB as chief selector.”
*More to follow…
He said in 11th hour With waseem badami i have not taken the charge because i am not ready to Work under anyone n i want full authority only then i will take charge
rashid is an idiot as well...i already had problem with him when i saw him appearing on every other tv show offering his post-match analysis after becoming chief selector....fine he was not an acting chief selector but he had accepted the position and it does not make sense to offer your opinion publicly on current players from that percieved position of authority ....
and how abt joining the system and do something abt it and then resign vs oh I cannot do it because of xyz
It's more fun being a critic. It's nice having unlimited air time.
The guy has some serious victim complex and a massive chip on his shoulder, it might proved to be a blessing in disguise if he stays away from PCB, the system is already incurably messed up as it is. So no more drama and drama queens, please.
I actually don't understand the culture of chasing ex cricketers for every bloody job.

so you'd be okay for a soccer player or a musician to be chief selector for cricket? :)

Chief selector is not an administrative post. It must be an ex-international cricketer, someone who has played the game at the highest level.
PCB Chief is an administrative post in places such as England and Australia. But in Pakistan because of the VVIP culture, the chairman has a habit of issuing unnecessary statements, fiddling with team selection (on the basis of personal likes and dislikes) and basically poking his nose (and all other parts of his body) into everything..
For starters, I don’t think cricket is exactly nuclear science where only those who have played the game on the highest level can know all the ins and out.
Most contemporary ex cricketers are just as controversial, opportunistic, power hungry and difficult personalities to deal as any other incompetent bureaucrat in PCB. They came from the same culture of self importance and self regard where any form and level of accountability, criticism and feedback hits them a like massive attack on ego and personal pride. Drama Queens like Muhammad Yousuf and Latif are the kind of people who would impulsively resign on the drop of a hat. I rather have less prolific name with proper professional coaching qualification as a technical expert on selection panel than a egoistic and high maintenance ‘know it all’ ex cricketers.
I’m surprised how much praise and air time likes of Shoiab Akhtar gets as a cricket analyst. The guy has the nerve to come on National TV and say we need badey da puttar as a captain who gives laad to his players. Sorry Shoaib, you were known as everything but baday ka puttar who coached his juniors, supported his captain and listened to his coach. I really hope he’s not applying for any of these jobs because that would be one CV that deserves to be hand shredded.
I know, innit. Amir Sohail’s an idiot. Is he still with PMLN?
Keep thinking. Let me know when you have a specific point to talk about.
For now, I'm only here to talk about sports. What's say, shall we keep it at that for a while? :)
You raised the issue of ex cricketers being chased for every bloody job and I was merely responding to it. If you do not now wish to discuss it, that's fine, I was gearing up for a discussion on the fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz and his antics in PPP. Dont tell me you were thinking of someone else. :)
exactly, look at the mess they have made by coming into politics. :)
still better than our so called politicans

sarfraz Nawaz is now wth najam sethi he has been awarded some important post in PCB so now he has shut his mouth. amir sohail left pmln because he was removed by najam sethi, so now he is doing every other program against najam sethi :D

Aha!
Don't know about someone else. But I for one was certainly thinking about your posting history.
I am glad for once that there is still some sanity in PCB, if they were paying attention to every* nathoo-khaira* on different forums they could’ve appointed street-corner-paan-wala as chief selector.
Blimey. As if nathoo khaira posts on forums to seek PCB’s attention. Don’t think that’s a point of forums.
The common man on the street may very well have better work ethics and commitment record than some of the cricketing Prima Donnas of past and present days. Only in Pakistan, the general public thinks the more time an ex player gets on TV being an arm chair critic, the more sacred and life saving his knowledge of cricket must be. What happens afterwards, the bottlers walk away when given a chance or resign after first major let down.
