Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

wah wah...sir jee tusssi tay sidha hee sixer kad marya hai......woh bee afridi wala six...300 meter sixer!!!

Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

and how exactly do you suggest they should find someone 'non-cricketer' to be a 'selector'? what qualifications/experience would be appropriate?

Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

I don't care for a big name to take over, instead, I would rather see someone who works at the ground root level and has the knowledge and experience with regards to the up and coming talent.

Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

I have played a lot of tape ball cricket. Do I qualify?

oh and I have played lot of soccer (in school and college). Can I apply for Brazilian soccer coach?

Just looking for career options u know...Unfortunately I cant be a nuclear scientist since you have excluded already else I have KRL's job application pdf sitting right in front of me.

On OP, Rashid did the right thing. What is wrong if he want to get all authority if he is ready to take responsibility too?

Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

When I said ex cricketers, I meant the contemporary big names you always seen on the TV and read about in the media. I should've been clearer.

A Chief selector must have a cricketing background, but he doesn't have to be a prolific ex player who basically gets the job because of his popularity not because of any extraordinary professional record. Like I clearly said in my previous posts. a less well known name with yjr right coaching qualifications, on ground experience and with exceptional work ethics and commitment will be a better investment than hiring these trigger happy egoistic ex cricketers who are still obsessed personal glories.

Is it too much to hope for non controversial and professionally trained selectors?

Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

Rashid is not someone who has played cricket and has been a captain... only. But he also had setup an academy, had coaching job. Yes he is a bit dramatic for lots of people's choice, but if given right authority (not just someone who will sign a paper/stamp blindly) he could turn things around.

Re: Latif turns down Pakistan selector's role

The problem with Pakistan cricket is that everybody wants 'authority', everybody wants to be a boss, the only boss. From captain to selectors to coach to administrative staff - they all have same sense of self entitlement, and it is getting ridiculous now. Whose demands you do fulfill? Such priggish attitude is not doing Pakistani cricket any good or taking it forward. I feel there is this inane desire in Pakistan cricket to have authority placed in people's hand as oppose putting it in a system. Even the players who have played under authoritarian set ups or were known as authoritarian leaders have came out admitted that cricket cannot go back to those days, everything from on field rules, playing style to structure of administration has tremendously changed. Why don't these players realise this? They need to look beyond themselves and think about the ways to make the current system and structure work.

The problem with many ex players is that they are under this illusion that just because they are ex cricketers with big careers, it's their God given right to turn things around in PCB, if they don't get that chance they come on TV to play upright, uptight, upward rebels. The same players who moan and groan about authority in Pakistan, go all mute and meek when they work as outsiders under authoritative boards like ECB, ACB, NZCB, RSCB etc. Yes PCB is run by crooks and criminals, but the ex cricketers who want to have a big share in the pie are hardly the bastion of professionalism and great work ethics.

As with Rashid, it's not just he refused the role of chief selector, for someone who's been so controversially vocal about corruption has also turned down the offer to give anti-corruption lectures to youngsters. This is pretty disappointing on so many levels. I'm not writing all this to convince to you about anything. You don't have to agree with me, you don't even have to reply back to me. I just feel I need to have these views posted here.

It's my personal belief and a very firm belief that change always comes from within. I believe in joining the system you want to change, I believe in changing, shaking, beating and defeating the system from within. And I also believe this chance for Rashid was long overdue, sadly, he purposely missed it. It's generally getting quite boring to see everyone hopelessly complaining and lecturing, it'd be nice to have someone come forward and say - right, we can do this and I will do this!

Take some responsibility for once, you bloody bottlers.

PS. I used the word bloody simply as a literary technique. I didn't want to miss out a chance of quick alliteration, so no disrespect intended for both Youusf and Rashid.
