Re: Last 16

Re: Last 16
Another technological blunder..
but whoa Tevez's second goal was absolute blinder!!!!! Argeninta 3-0.
Re: Last 16
another error has somewhat spoilt what could have been a good game, u can tell it was playing on the mexican players because of that unjustice.

Cracking game in prospect Germany V Argentina.
I wouldn't put it past this youthful german team to go about their game efficiently has they have been doing so far and beat Argentina perhaps 2-1 or 3-2.
They showed a previous match with Eng v. Germany and the goal was similar to the one in this match, and it went to Eng favor and they Won. Commentator was like, history repeating itself. But it was really a goal in this one. Then again, the Umps are crap and the decisions ever worse.
Glad Germany won! ![]()
Looks like Argentina is gona win. I was hoping Mexico.

Yes it is a shame that one of these two teams - Argentina and Germany - won't be in the semis but thats how it goes sometimes in a KO-based competition such as FIFA World Cup. But it also gives other teams like Holland, Portugal and Spain a real chance of reaching the semis
And as fearsome as the Argentina attack is, they will surely need to be at their best 'defensively' if they are to win this crunch game. The Germans always looked dangerous on the counter-attack against England.
btw I was dead right with my prediction about Argentina beating Mexico 3-1..

Yeah **dead **right...with the help of the referee... :D
Gerrard did play behind Rooney prior to worldcup a move that failed and was widely pooh poohed by all experts, not sure why this time it would have made a difference. I think everyone has collective amnesia about that now.
it was less of a mistake bringing heskey out as much as it was keeping rooney on, Rooney was a non factor the entire tournament, really is not special.
Sven was not a bad manager either, I bet those who in the english media were against sven now see that he delivered quite a bit with the ‘talent’ he had at his disposal.
Re: Last 16
YAAAAAAAY Argentina WON ![]()
BUT Why Messi is not striking good?
not a single goal ![]()
He is waiting for the semis and the final.
But Brazil all the way. ![]()
Waiting for what?
LOL
Nah I will still support Argentina. ![]()
Yeah I know Maradona is a bit eccentric but a footballing genius nevertheless
The greatest player of our time
(ps. I never saw Pele play)
Yeah and whats amazing is that he was short and fat, not at all built like an athlete in any way and still turned out to be the best! Amazing!
Lets not get carried away here amigo,
brazil and germany are a contant powerhouse,
argentina are not in the same class, not for 20 years.
just last 2006 worldcup brazilian for all their flair were eliminated by france in quarterfinals, argentina at the same time by germany and then germany lost to the italians, (you know the gang that did not clear the group this time)
in 2002, argentina did not progress out of group, brazil won going all the way beating germany in the finals, and beating england by a goal in quarterfinals
in 1998 germany was beaten by croatia in quarterfinals, argentina lost to netherlands in quarterfinals, and brazil went to finals but lost to france.
in 1994 argentina lost in round of 16 to ‘mighty’ romania.
in 1990 england lost to germans in semifinals, and the same germans then won against argentina in finals, brazil were eliminated in round of 16 by argentina (germany and argentina was a replay of 86 worldcup where they clashed in finals)
in 1986 when argentina won, they beat germans in the final, on their way they beat england in quarterfinals, brazil lost to france at the same time.
Argentina has a great team this time around, but they really have not been serious contenders for 20 years, they seem to be favourites for a certain crowd each time around, although the performances have not been there like those of germans and brazilians.
we also see fans of netherlands and spain, who are free to look up their teams performances in the worldcup over the last 2 decades.
esentially you have 2 top dogs, germany and brazil, and then you get teams like italy, france and argentina who I would say are tier 2, then you have tier 3 teams like england, netherlands, spain, croatia, and then a host of teams that pop up on the scene like south korea, turkey, US getting to quarterfinals and then disappearing

Point taken
But I am not just talking about winning and losing. We all accept that winning and losing are part of the game. And whether or not teams like Brazil or Argentina or Germany or Dutch (khush zabardast :D) do well in every world cup, they are definitely more attractive to watch. There is a certain flair and stylishness about their play, something I honestly do not associate with english football.
The english game mainly relies on scoring thru short corners or a good header here and there. You would rarely see an english player score a really good or sensational field goal against a top team which is what real Football is about IMO. The Germans by contrast scored all field goals today
When I think about innovative and fluent attacking football, those 4 countries esp. Brazil and Argentina come first to my mind. Whether or not they do well in every world cup is besides the point. Even Ghana & Nigeria are more exciting to watch than England
Re: Last 16
have you read what brazilians are saying about brazil's style under dunga?
Re: Last 16
But I still find the Brazilians far more exciting to watch than many european teams. I think that criticism of Dunga is a bit overhyped. The present set of Brazilian players can/are playing attractive flowing football. They looked really good against Ivory Coast the other day
Re: Last 16
Stan’s got it dead right here…call it skill, flair, innovation or whatever but that is what is so desperately lacking in english football at the moment
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opin…cle499181.html
We will NEVER win another World Cup unless we teach our players skill
It is high time the FA ripped up their rule book and took a look at what we expect from our footballers.
Emotions are running high here in Bloemfontein, but the future has never been clearer. It is time for change.
Exactly the same things are being said this morning as they were when I was a kid and England either failed to qualify for tournaments or arrived at major events only to let everyone down.
Put simply we look for the wrong qualities in our players - still.
We continue to blindly expect our players to show they are hard-working, brimful of determination and are ready to get stuck in with a “roll your sleeves up” type attitude.
Technical skill and individual flair is too low down the list.
In Germany, Spain, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and emerging eastern European countries like Croatia skill is top of the list and rest is simply considered part of the make-up of a world class athlete.
The Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara called my Talksport phone in and made some good points along these lines after the match yesterday.
Les Ferdinand was also on my show. He has bags of experience as a player and is desperate to improve as a coach so he can pass on his knowledge to the younger generation.
But Les told me that there is no-where for him to learn. He is currently working for Harry Redknapp at Spurs, but he wants a structured career path.
So, not only are we locked in the past with our attitude to what we expect from our young players but the forward thinking coaches are not being able to progress either.
It is a recipe for a sporting disaster. Unless we make changes we should forget any thoughts of doing well at major championships.
Do we want to be the generation to change things for the better, or are we just going to sit by and let the malaise continue. We have no chance of making an impression on the next World Cup tournament in Brazil, and we will be embarrassed on our own patch if we win the 2018 bid.
Skill, skill, skill should be all we are looking for in our youngsters. Unless we do something dramatic soon we should prepare for 100 years of hurt.
Re: Last 16
lol. brit PM and german chancellor watched todays match together here in toronto g20 summit.
Re: Last 16
Best hope for England is to completely train a new crop of players in skill set. Don't draft EPL players but keep a seperate world cup team.
Train them for 8 years and make a solid run in 2018 when England gets to host the world cup.
