Jammu: A Kashmiri militant has confessed in detention to planting one of three bombs that exploded in New Delhi killing 62 people, an Indian army spokesman said on Wednesday.
**“The army has picked up Ghulam Mohiuddin Lone of Banihal area in Doda district of Kashmir, who has confessed that he was involved in the Paharganj bomb blast in New Delhi,” said Colonel D.K. Badola, an Army spokesman. **
Paharganj was one of two markets that were hit by blasts on October 29, days ahead of Diwali. Another blast occurred on a bus.
Badola added that Lone had been handed over to police in Jammu. A military intelligence source told AFP that Lone had said he was paid Rs 23,000 by a commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“He was first paid Rs 3,000 before the blast, then Rs 20,000 after the blast,” said the source, who asked not to be named. A militant group calling itself the Islamic Revolutionary Group had claimed responsibility for the Delhi blasts.
The intelligence source said Lone arrived in Delhi on October 28 by bus, where he was told to await the arrival of two people at a local transport company the following day.
“Two persons came around 5:30 pm in an autorickshaw. They gave him one bag (weighing) 15 kg. He planted the bag in the Paharganj area near Vivek Hotel.”
Lone told the intelligence officials that he did not recognise the men who handed him the bag but said they were speaking Urdu. Lone was given blades and shaving material to change his identity before travelling back to Kashmir.
“He’s around 22-years-old, active in militancy since 2002 and he was working as a courier and overground worker,” the intelligence source said.
The detention represents a major breakthrough for police in their investigations of the bombings, which left more than 200 people injured.

‘Key suspect’ accepts involvement in Delhi Blasts
Wednesday, November 09, 2005 11:17:27 amIANS ]
JAMMU: In what can lead to a major breakthrough to the pre-Diwali blasts in New Delhi, army personnel in Doda district here are believed to have acquired some vital clues from a “key suspect” who has been handed over to the Delhi Police after his arrest.
**Police and army officials said that Ghulam Mohi-ud-din, a member of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was picked up by army intelligence Nov 6 from Ramban, a highway town on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway in Doda. **
The army handed him over to the state police Tuesday with the initial interrogation report. His statements have been video recorded so that further interrogation can be corroborated with the earlier ones.
The twin blasts in the national capital killed over 60 people.
“On interrogation he told us that he and his associates were involved in the Delhi blasts,” army sources said.
Mohi-ud-din is a resident of Lonepora near Banihal in the mountainous Doda district. He was earlier with the Hizbul-Mujahideen and had recently switched over to Lashkar-e-Taiba.
