Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Well, I hope they will agree to repeat your treatment with higher settings. Cutera have more than one Laser. If it was the Cooldlide, that's an Nd:YAG laser and the right one for skin types IV and upwards. I can't advise about settings, that's for them to adjust and test patch you with... but whatever setting will work, will also hurt.

Most Pakistani's would be IV and above. If you're very fair and would get sun burn, then you might be a type III and can be treated with an Alexandrite Laser.

Nd:YAG and Alexandrite have two distinct wavelengths.

The Coolglide isn't the best Nd:YAG Laser but it should still do the job if operated properly. Diode Lasers would also work if you are type III or IV but usually they are harder to operate.

What you don't want is a IPL.

What's happening with your hair right now? Is it growing completely normally?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

place where i have shaved after 1week treatment is taking bit more time to grow than earlier...
my skin type would be IV... n yes i was coolglide...can i share the name of the site here...
then u can check and tell me more about it.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

You shaved 1 week after the treatment? That would make shedding take longer. So I would advise to wait a bit more and see if hair is actually growing normally in that area or if the area becomes smooth as the hairs fall out.

I have checked the clinic website you sent me in pm.. it's not very informative, same stuff that is on many clinic sites.

As I said, the Coolglide is fine but I can't advise on settings. That's the clinics job and if they are not doing it properly, you need to try elsewhere.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

i didnt shaved all the treated area, only at places which are visible to all.....i have been wearing full sleeve for past 5 years..... :( ..
i have no idea, what to do now... my all hopes were on laser...

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

So the areas that you didn't shave after treatment, but were treated, is the hair growing normally on them?

I don't know what your arm hair is like. If it's on the thicker side, you can get a reduction from Laser. That's not the problem, the problem is the clinic needs to do the treatment properly.

As I said, tell them you haven't shed (at week 3) and ask them to retreat free of charge at proper settings.

Or find another clinic.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

sure....i will talk with them tomorrow and also ask them about the previous setting which they used on me.
am hoping that they will do something about it. Then i will let you know.
U have be a lot of help to me. Thanks a lot.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

hello stoppit

you suggested sheila godfrey for electrolysis, I'd like to know has she been recommended by someone you know or did you just google electrologists in bham for me? thanks

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi Billie, some other electrologist's whom I respect have recommended her to people in Bham. She's senior in the BIAE I believe.

You should always try more than one and compare treatment though. At my clinic in London, there are 4 registered BIAE electrologists, all using the same equipment but their technique's differ somewhat and I have my preference.

I always tell people not to just have the consultation. If you think all is okay, still start off with a few short treatments (perhaps with more than one electrologist) to get a better idea of their work and consistency.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

aaahhh thanks stoppit . I think I'm just gonna go with S Godfrey. I don't have time to try others, and I totally trust what You Say.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I understand but I'd still recommend trying another from the directory. People's experiences can be very varied. Like you may get less of a reaction with one although both are doing a good job in regards to hair removal.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

hello stoppit,
i call my clinic yesterday, n they told me to wait for some more days...as here, its holidays...
today when i was taking bath, i notice some hairs falling. and when i rubbed they where actually falling.....i have looked very carefully and found still small hairs at that place where hairs have fallen...my arms now they have some place where hairs are long and at some places they are small and still connected to skin...is this sign of shedding....?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi proto, the hairs that have fallen out are the shedding hairs.

The long hairs are probably normally growing hairs and they did not get treated, either because they were missed by the laser, they are too fine to respond to treatment or the settings weren't high enough to damage them.

The other smaller hairs still might shed.

If you have patches where it has shed and others where it has not, in UK/USA/Europe it's normal practice for the clinic to do a free 'touch up' treatment after about 3 weeks to treat these missed hairs.
If a lot has not shed after a few more days, you should ask them if they can re-treat those areas.

Next time, if it doesn't hurt, make sure you tell them! When the settings are good, it usually hurts enough that you will clench your teeth - more than waxing!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

oh god....so is it a good news for me then...!!
its like my right arm is losing more hairs than left one..i will surely do as you say..i will also ask them about the touch up session....i think the doc will agree too.....
should i continue the treatment stoppit....also can u kindly tell me like whats gonna me future of my hairs after 3-4 session of treatment....will they grow thinner or what...
n thanks again for your replies...

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Thanks for your tips, bro :)

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

My personal experience is its a waste of money (for desis). I went through the entire process, and its all back to the same old way. Lost a lot of time and money.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

For those near NYC, Pulse clinic has a great offer on groupon now and seems to have good reviews on yelp. They use the Candela GentleYAG. Is this any good stoppit? If it's halfway good I might get some work done from them.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Yup, GentleYAG is one of the best YAG lasers out there. Just read all the T&Cs carefully.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

this is the first time i read this thread as i recently got really serious abt laser. It really was helpful info. After looking around most places in my city are offering IPL in the name of Laser hair removal. So the only few places i have short listed use these:

Cynosure Elite (only 1 place offers this)
Syneron eMax (elos technology) 1 place
Cynosure Elite MPX(again only 1 place )
Lumeni's Light Sheer
ND: YAG Cutera Coolglide/Coolglide Vantage (few places)

Now according to ur info Cynosure elite and elite MPx are on top of list. what abt Syneron? their site claims it to be good too(targets spot size upto 12x15nm, treats pigmented hair n tanned skin, perfect for back n legs, uses low intense light and is much safer) they have few good testimonials from some clinics/spas too and i'm inclining towards it as well. but since i'm thinking only brazillian now should a large spot size is even needed? So what should i be looking now to further short list other than price? How do i judge if the technicians are really good or not? Should i ask for their certificates, references, yrs of experiences etc. unfortunately i found no reviews no where.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi Mabrook,

Do you know what your skin type is yet? Because that will effect whether you need a Nd:YAG or Alexandrite.

Elite and Elite MPX have both Lasers in their systems, so they will be able to treat you no matter what your skin type. They are also amongst the best machines.

Other than that, Candela GentleLASE (alexandrite), GentleYAG (YAG) and GentleMAX (combo like the Elite's) are the best Laser machines on the market because of the variable spot sizes up to 18mm.

Coolglide is okay but the problem is the small spot size. Basically, the larger the spot size, the more energy that can be delivered, so the techs have more parameters to play with.

Lightsheer is a diode...again okay but it is highly dependent on the technician being able to use it. It's more complicated to use than an Alex or YAG Laser.

eMax is an elos based system, which is kinda gimmicky because as well as the light they use RF (which is generally considered to to do anything in terms of damaging cells). Don't fall for the marketing on this one.

Best thing is to go for consultations as at many clinics as you can. You will get a feel for which ones are bs'ing you.

In the rare case that a clinic is truthful and tells you things like the risks of induced growths, and does not offer packages because they know people are done in a different number of treatments. Then this clinic would be the one to go for. However, it's highly unlikely (these are few and far between) that most will be so honest.

So you need to have your test patches and after them don't shave. Whoever you get the best shedding with and then in say 8 weeks after shedding, you see a bit less regrowth, is probably doing the best job. Because they can be using the best machine but if they are using bad settings, then you won't get good results.
The test patches should be in similar areas tho... so lower part of lower legs or something.

But then having said that, most clinics don't pay the big bucks for Cynosure or Candela lasers unless they are serious.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi Stoppit
I think i have finally found a clinic that follows ur given criteria. its both a laser and electrolysis clinic, used Gentle YAG( i must be type 4), has a very professional site, with all team members pictures and bio datas(their courses, number of years in practice, associations they r members of etc), don't have any fixed prices or packages. So basically their website answers all imp questions. I have made an appointment with them for jan 23. fingers crossed. i'm just not sure what to expect on the first appt but let's see. And after first patch test how soon can i go to another place in case things don't work out well?
