Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

That sounds great Mabrook.

Is it just a consultation right? I mean they should not be giving you a full appointment until they have given you a full consultation on the process and test patched some settings on the required areas.

Test patches are only a few inches by a few inches. It's basically to make sure you don't burn or anything. Clinics let you book a full appointment for the area 48 hrs after the consultation/test patch. Although I always advise that you should first ensure you have full shedding before committing to a full appointment (so wait 3-4 weeks).

Let's say you want your lower legs treated, during the consultation they will just do a small test patch on one lower leg.

What you can then do, is go to another clinic of your choice for another consultation and get them to do test patch on the other lower leg.

Then see how both patches shed in the next 3-4 weeks and book for full, paid appointments accordingly.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

its a consultation only. they will do test patch and giv me a price quote acc to my needs.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Just wanted to add my experience. I am light skinned and had patches of coarse hair on my chin. 6-7 treatments later all the coarse hairs are gone. Some fine hair is still there but I can take care of them easily by using bleach or tweezers. Overall it was a good experience, except I got folliculitis (inflammed follicles) after treatments. The laser technician did not give me info about this beforehand so I was not prepared. But it went away after I put neosporin.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

When did you finish your treatments?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I finished them in april last yr

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Thanks. We don't have enough info on long term results here. Did you have any hormonal issues causing the thick hair?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

not sure, never been tested. But my sister and other cousins too had this problem, could be heriditary?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Probably. But the question is, what is hereditary; hormone issues, extra sensitivity to testosterone etc etc.

I'm sure the Laser has permanent destroyed those follicles. However, if you start sprouting thicker hairs again, do get tested because then it is suggestive of hormonal issues.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

thanks, will remember to do that.

it's been 9 mos since I had my last laser treatment. If the issue was hormonal would the hair have grown back by now? Or can it regrow basically any time in the future?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Not necessarily. It suggests your treatment was effective for the thick hairs you had before. If you get hair in the future, it will be new hair. Hormones can stimulate your current fine hairs to thicken up or activate dormant follicles that have thus far never produced a hair.

With ineffective treatments (where the hair starts coming back as soon as you stop) it can be hard to figure out if the treatments weren't good or if hormones are causing problems.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Wow just read through your thread and its very informative…can you reccomend any companies in Birmingham, Uk that do electrolsis.

I know this may sound thick but I don’t seem to understand the difference between lazer and IPL or are they the same thing :disgust:

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I explained the difference in my first post. They are both light based but otherwise different.

You can search the BIAE member directory for the west midlands for an electrologist. It's best to go to as many consultations as possible, the best electrologist you can find may not be the closest one. The skill of the electrologist is paramount so it is worth traveling if you have to. Their is Sheila who is an internationally well known electrologist but she also now offers IPL. If you see her, don't get suckered into that if she offers it, no matter how she sells it. You want her electrolysis or nothing in my opinion.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I thought this chart would be useful. Kindly created by electrologist Mr. Bono.

You can see that in an untouched area, anagen and telogen hairs are present. This would be a ‘full growth’. Not all the active follicles have hairs but it’s as many as you are going to see at any given point.

Then, we have a shaved area. The telogen hairs are still in the follicles but because they are not growing they emerge slowly. So if you are shaving, you are not really seeing a ‘full growth’.

Lastly, any kind of root removal. The hairs that will emerge in the few weeks after are early anagen hairs - hairs that were below the surface when you removed the rest. This is the most misleading because if you are regularly doing root removal, you really have no idea how much hair you actually have.

I advise anyone thinking about electrolysis (once they have gone for consultations etc) to leave the area alone for 2-3 months and just trim and or bleach (not shave or use creams). Once they have a real idea of the amount of hair they really have, they will have a more realistic idea of what needs to be achieved and so does the electrologist.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

i live in pak, 24yr old, un-married.
In 2003 i had laser hair removal for the first time, i used to have vellulas hair on my face and no hair on my chin(huge mistake, i know), but after the treatment i had thick, dark, corase hair on my face incld chin. I stopped after 6 sittings, did waxing and threading . My facial hair got stronger, stubborn and thicker with the passage of time...In 2007 i again had laser with dr. farah farooqi, no result.

my periods are regular, testesterone n SHBG levels are normal, non-diabetic, no findings of PCOS on u/s.
i have been seeing an endocrinologist, who told me my receptors are over sensitive with normal level of testesterone, prescribed me aldactone(spironolactone) with diane35, told me to take it n then do laser...i will be taking dianee35 from next mnth.

I need you guys to help me with laser options, plzzzzzzzzz.
Dr.afzal lodhi has Candela gentle Lasse, Dr tasneen nakhuda has light sheer diode, then there is a Dr. haroon nabi in lhr, and the list goes on....but seriously i dont trust any paki doctors any more.

I am willing to go abroad, yesterday i found a place in new york called romeo n juliet, i spoke to their manager called chris, he said i have laser induced hair growth and laser should never touch vellulas hair, now laser is my only solution......i need to know are they good??? does their machines work on asian skin.

i have sooo much thick, coarse, dark hair on my face n chinl (typical male pattern) that electrolysis can't been done or else i will have scars and KHADDA on my face n chin...

Has anyone else had the same experience which i had?? what's the traetment??? please help me out. I need solution.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Romeo and Juilet are good but you should not have Laser on your face at all. You have induced growth and in these situations, further laser is not helpful at all. I don't know anyone who experienced induced growth with was sorted out with further laser, even if everything was perfect. The drugs are also only temporary in their effect. If they do slow down hair growth, when you stop the hair will go back to normal.

Your thinking about electrolysis is completely 100% wrong. You just need someone who can deal with the kind of hair you can have. It's the only option you have for permanent hair removal.

I can believe your hair is thick and dark but I doubt it is as dense as mine was, given that it surprised the electrologists even. I had extremely fine but extremely dense hair and I've had electrolysis and my skin looks great... better than before even. My type of hair is actually much more difficult to treat that coarse hair, because it was shallow rooted and required a lot more precision not to damage the skin.

I will reply to your pm later.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Yesterday I got an amazing deal on laser hair removal for 6 body parts (unlimited lasering for a year). Now I’m confused if I should do my lower legs or upper legs. I’m leaning towards upper legs … has anybody lasered their legs before??? Lower legs counts as 3 body parts, and upper legs count as another 3. So I don’t want to use all the lasering on my legs alone.

I am leaning towards upper legs. Hmmmm … edit: I will just do the full legs.
