Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Estel, joules vary from Laser type, to the brand of machine and with spot size. There is also pulse width to factor in. And there is no need to start low. If the tech is good and starts off with good settings, they won't increase that much.

6-10 treatments is also way too much in my opinion and because they start off low and space too close. And you can never get rid of all the hair. You're still undergoing treatments. Wait 6 months after you stop and let us know how much hair comes back on those areas.

You shouldn't need touch up treatments either, unless you get new growth.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I will spread my treatments apart stoppit. Thankyou for all the info! ive shed a lot of hair on my chin but i should expect it to grow back since the follicle may not be damaged right?

lets see how it goes =)

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Shedding is a good sign. Hair that doesn't shed has had a completely ineffective treatment. If the hair was coarse and the settings were aggressive, then hopefully these follicles will be killed.

Once shedding is complete, you will have a hair free period. Then the next cycle of hair will start to come in (this is not the same hair that was already treated). First slowly, then it will speed up (lots of new growth over a week or two), then it will slow down again. When it slows down again and it seems that not much new growth is coming in, go for your next treatment. As for the first treatment, if those same follicles have not been killed, they won't produce hairs for many months anyway, so there's no way to tell right now.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Great thread here!
iv been getting laser treatments for my face(sideburns basically..and then ended up with bit of cheek area too and the chin area).i guess what stoppit said is true,it stimulates the rest of the hair that didnt need treatment in first place!
ok so 2 years and i get it done every 3months,nd-yag candela(?)laser.so around 8 or maybe 9 treatments.it’s clear for around 2months and then after 2 andhalf months there is a sudden burst of the hair back!:naraz: i had fine hair but there was too many, with waxing everytime i ended up with a disaster on my skin!
im in my no-hair-zone-days these days and feel great!but i know in a month or so ouch!and they have turned thick now!noticeable!
how long would it take?!:frowning:

after reading this thread,iv decided to take onto electrolysis!but,in islamabad(Pakistan) there are no clinics that provide this service!havent heard of any apart from depilux.anyone had experience with them?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi proto, I'm not sure if you read my first post of this thread. If not, please do as then you will understand what is supposed to happen during Laser treatments.

Before the treatment you should have shaved? Or they should have done it for you. The treatment doesn't remove the hairs immediately, even if it is effective.

Even when effective, after treatment the shaved hairs look as though they are growing normally (but perhaps a bit slower), they then start to shed. You can gently exfoliate to help shedding. Shedding usually starts 1.5-2 weeks after treatment and finishes about 3 weeks after treatment.

So wait another 2 weeks and see if the hairs have shed or if they are still growing like normal. If they are still growing (and don't slide out when you pull them), then the treatment was not effective at all. Go back to the salon and let them know that you didn't experience shedding and you want the treatment to be repeated. Since it's Pakistan, I have no idea what they will do/say about this. They might even tell you some garbage like the hair doesn't shed.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

stoppit,
I read the post....
till now, i am experiencing slight late growth but no shedding.....
The clinic which i went was quite renowned, doctor told me about the shedding....they cleaned my arms before the procedure....yeah they shaved it....
stoppit one more thing, i did not had any redness or minor side effect after the 1st treatment ...hhmm, while treating my finger hairs, i had bit burning or u might say sting, but nothing more....
and when i say Laser not good option coz i read ur post and some other post on different forums and found out that Laser they dont completely remove the hairs, instead they just slow or reduce....I hear about electrolysis, which promises to be the only permanent hair removal method....and being a student i cannot afford the fact that after few years of my treatment with Laser the hairs might grow back again.....thay's why i was looking for other alternatives....
as it goes, i am very much depressed about my condition....i still dont know what to do about it....

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Well give it a bit longer and see if you shed. But yes, from a good treatment, when the laser fires it will hurt. Feels like sharp snaps? And the area is usually red afterwards, even if only for a little while. If you don't get shedding, you have a good case. You should go to them and say you know that shedding is necessary but it's not happening to they should repeat the treatment with the right settings.

Laser, even when it works is permanent hair reduction. You won't get rid of all the hairs in an area. How much depends on how coarse the hairs are. So you will get better results on the lower legs than the arms, because the hairs are coarser.

I don't know about electrolysis in Pakistan. Even if it is offered, I don't know if anyone would do large areas. Even in the UK, most electrologists will only do smaller areas like the upper lip because they don't have the equipment that allows the speed to remove a lot of hairs.

Maybe you can do some research into other Laser clinics in Lahore too?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

yeah i could do what u said....i will wait patiently and also hope that it works.....stoppit can u tell me how much should i wait...!!
and i dont want hairless arms, but i do want bit less and thinner hairs...on my arms and fingers they are coarse...
for electrolysis if they are here in lahore, will they do full shoulder till fingers or not...and i saying not at a single treatment but in multiple session over a period of time....do electrologist do this kind of treatment or its only limited to upper lips, chin and all other smaller areas.....??

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

You don't need to wait a long time. As I said, shedding should complete by week 3 after treatment.... so 2 more weeks from now. If shedding happens, then you can continue but at your next treatment tell them if you don't feel any pain as soon as they start.

If you don't get shedding 2 weeks from now, then go back to the clinic and ask them to repeat. If they say they won't and you can't argue with them... then I guess you have no choice but to not go back to them again. If you have only paid for one treatment so far, then it's best to quit with them before you lose more money.

If they DO, do the treatment again, you do the same process. Wait 3 weeks after that and see if you have shedding. If you don't have shedding, then just don't go back again. If you do get shedding, then you may want to continue with them.

Laser needs multiple sessions as hair grows in cycles. The hair that you have now is only one cycle. Even if the treatments are good, people generally need 4-6 treatments to get through all the hair cycles. I explained all this in my first post.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

In answer to your question, it depends on the electrologist. I have no idea if there are any in Lahore or what kind of equipment they have or what kind of work they perform.

With electrolysis, you treat a single hair at a time so it can be time consuming if you don't have the equipment to allow you to remove hairs faster. You still need to get through all the hair cycles, so you will need many treatments to clear areas and then keep them clear as the next hair cycle starts to come through.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

hey stoppit...they are offering electrolysis at depilex islamabad.havent heard good reviews about them...but ill give it a shot anyway.which area of the face do you think would be the safest to take a patch test?i think ill go for the chin area..in case i end up with some scarring or something...it wouldnt be that obvious, rite?

and yes, want to ask you how many maximum treatments of laser is enough?any point to which it is considered harmful after that amount of treatment?iv had around 9 treatments in 2 years..each 3 months apart.its clean for 3months,but then i got to take a treatment again, because they come out the way they were.im happy with how its going on,but im afraid too much of laser can be harmful?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi annie... no, there is no harm from Laser other than immediate effects (such as the skin burning if the settings are too high). Nothing wrong with lots of sessions. But if it's going to work, people are generally done within 6 treatments. The Laser is not causing permanent damage to your hair follicles, so they keep growing hair. It's no different from waxing, except that it's lasting a bit longer.

Give electrolysis a go. Just be careful. My aunt used to have it done here (in the UK) by some Asian women but in reality she wasn't doing anything, just stabbing my aunt's face with a needle!
I don't know if they will give you a consultation explaining how the process works but they should. Try to find out what equipment they are using and what mode of electrolysis (all are good but it helps to know what mode). The probe is inserted into the follicle.. in a correct insertion, you won't feel this at all. So if you feel like you are being pricked, be alert! Then almost immediately, the current is passed. You will feel the current and it feels uncomfortable but not like a needle prick. If you are unsure if the probe is being inserted correctly, ask for an insertion with no current, so you can feel the difference. The the electrologist removes the hair from the follicle with tweezers. A correctly treated follicle will just let the hair slide out with little to no resistance. So if you feel plucking, the follicle is not being treated properly!

From a little bit of treatment, most people see no after effects. You might get some tiny scabs that develop afterwards. Let them form, don't pick them off. They will fall off themselves when ready. Some people get them, some people don't. Some people get pigmentation under the scab (don't worry, it fades), other's don't. People's skin healing can really vary. After treatment, just wash your face with simple soap and water for a few days. Don't use anything harsh on the skin. Drink lots of water too, well hydrated skin scabs a lot less.

The chin is a fine area to test it out on. Or the sideburns.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

thankyou soooo much stoppit!
you are of so much help!:)
i shall keep you updated!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hello stoppit, can you tell me what is the earliest age you could start laser treatment on the face for girls.
also my sister comes out with big spots over the treated area on the face after laser treatment, had to discontinue treatment . staff at the clinic where no help (was a reputable clinic with branches nationwide). And finally can you recommend any electrolysis place in Birmingham as I might try this now . Thank you

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Hi Billie, if you’ve read my posts you will see that I do not support Lasering the face. There are too many women who have experienced induced growth. Also a young girl/teenager would have quite fine, downy growth, making it even more susceptible to Laser induced growth.

Electrolysis is perfect for this.

Here is the BIAE register for the B’ham area: http://www.electrolysis.co.uk/?page_id=798

Sheila Godfrey is well respected. Just make sure you go for electrolysis and don’t get suckered in for IPL, on any body part. Try to get consultations with at least two electrologists before making your decision. With electrolysis, practitioner skill is everything.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know
